He's leaving Sweden to play in the AHL?

its a 2 way 2 year deal so maybe he replaces avery. he can be a late bloomer i would think.

FissionFire 06-16-2008 10:37 AM

Wings drafted him and didn't sign him. That in itself should be a telling point.

SirKillalot 06-16-2008 10:43 AM

Haha, Jämtin is a real enforcer. Totally like Avery. Atleast he played like that in the SEL-playoffs. He had some really bad tackles der. He got a bit overheated in his head. He should have gotten several penalty minutes than he did.

Is he comparable to Colorado's Per Ledin?

And the Wings have never, ever, been wrong. Not once, ever...

Isn't Per Ledin much older? Some swedes better answer on this. It's a chat about him(Jämtin) in Red Wings-forum.

Ledin must be more skilled and not that physical?

That the best team in the league has better options?

Go figure.

Schroedingers Cat 06-16-2008 11:32 AM

The Wings declined to sign Jamtin because he wasn't their kind of player, not because he was bad.

Although he might never make the NHL, not a bad signing by NYR to pick up a free prospect and see what happens. The Brunnstrom\Leino signings are making a lot of teams look closely at what might be available for free in Euro leagues.

Jamtin had trouble staying healthy.

Very. They both agitate, skate hard, dive, and fake a few injuries on the ice.

Ledin probably has better offensive tools and is probably more physical as well. Jämtin [yem-TEEN] is the better stickhandler, though.

Jämtin is 25, Ledin is 29 (turns 30 before the season starts).. and IMO Ledin is better..

Anyway, a decent depth signing by the Rangers...

Yeah but he's from Sweden, so they probably drafted him based on his nationality. I fully believe there will be a box at the bottom of Swedish birth certificates in a few years that says "Sign with the Detroit Red Wings" in 2 - 3 years.

:sarcasm: ;)

Trading someone is very different than 'letting him go'.

Jamtin's upside is Jarko Ruutu, but everything I've heard about him said he can't skate a lick and that was why Detroit didn't bother with him.

Actually, he has trouble staying sane on the ice. He's crazy in a bad way, not a good way like Avery.

When it comes to Swedes? Can't think of a single Swede they cut loose who proved them wrong. If you have one, I'd love to hear it.
