OT: NHL RFA Off-Season Signings (Suter, Gleason, Weber...)

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=240865&l...headlines_main

Quote:

The Nashville Predators have signed defenceman Ryan Suter to a four-year, $14 million contract.

Last season, Suter established career highs in assists (24), points (31) and penalty minutes (71) while leading all Nashville blueliners in goals with seven and finishing second in points.
Well, he's one of the first RFA defenseman re-signed by his team in this off-season. It will be interesting to see how much Pitkanen, Bouwmeester, Weber, Green, Ehrhoff and Wideman will be able to fetch in a couple of days/weeks...

Quote:

The Hurricanes have also signed blueliner Tim Gleason for 4 years at an average of 2.75 million per year.
Well, the second RFA defenseman signed during this off-season...

Defenceman Shea Weber has signed a three-year, $13,5 million contract with the Nashville Predators, avoiding restricted free agency.
4.5M$/year for 3 years.

Sweet deal for the Preds.

Tuggy 06-16-2008 05:28 PM

Maybe we could sign Komi to that type of money, but sadly I doubt it :(

Habs 4 Life 06-16-2008 05:30 PM

Great deal for the Preds IMO

Uwey 06-16-2008 05:33 PM

WOW, he took less than what Tom Gilbert signed for with the Oilers!!

Gilbert signed a $24 mill/6 yr deal earlier in the spring. That for less than a 100 games plyed in the NHL.

Yeah, but he gave up some years in free agency in that deal.

My thoughts exactly.

If I was a hockey player i'd play D because that's where the big $ is at these days.

But there's only 6 spots on the team ;)

Have to expect more moves by the Predators with Weber and Ellis still unsigned...

and there's 14 forward spots but a guy like Malone will still get 5M this summer.

Great signing by the Preds, hopefully we can sign Komi for the same deal plus about a million more a year.

I'm a bit confused..

Corey Sarich earned 3,6 M for his next 5 years.. UFA
Ryan Suter just got 3,5 M each of the next 4 years RFA
Brent Burns just over 3,5 with 4 years RFA

Mike Green will have slighty more money than those 3, even if Burns is a better «player» and because he signed in the season after is amazing finish this year and is showing in the IIHF

But I rate those player like this:

Burns 86/100
Green 85/100
Komi 83/100
Suter 82/100
Sarich 81/100

Maybe to NHL type but i'm trying to make a point.

Komi will be UFA and his value will be higher, but I don't think that it will be at 4M or more..

5 years at 18M per year for Komi

Yet the Predators let Vokoun, Kariya and Timonen all leave?

Those three guys Nashville refused to give top dollar, but Suter?

Metropolitsky 06-17-2008 06:37 PM

Suter will turn 27 (Ufa years) at the end of his contract....that might blow in preds face

Kariya 6M$ cap #, Vokoun 5.7M$ cap #, Timonen 6.33M$ cap #...

Nashville is building a pretty good team with really strong players... Their biggest cap # for next year is 4.5M$ (Legwand, Arnott, Erat)

Good job to David Poile for locking up all his players... (Erat, Suter, Ellis, Weber...)

Habs 4 Life 06-23-2008 11:57 AM

Preds can't really afford losing both those young solid D's.Good for them locking them up
