Phaneuf graces NHL 09 cover ...

http://calsun.canoe.ca/Showbiz/2008/...11016-sun.html

Seriously ... ***?

philthy mcnasty* 06-17-2008 02:01 PM

I'm gonna order the European copy with whoever else is on that.

Just putrid. Call me hurtin but I can't tolerate this kid. My hatred and history with Phaneuf runs too long and too deep.

The Human Torch 06-17-2008 02:02 PM

Don't you know that he's the bestest NHL defenceman EVAR????????????

GMofOilers 06-17-2008 02:06 PM

We yeah he was the first defencemen nominated for the Norris without having to play top pairing minutes. :sarcasm:

The Last Dynasty 06-17-2008 02:19 PM

I hope he gets hit with the "EA Sport Cover Curse"

kruezer 06-17-2008 02:37 PM

I know I shouldn't post this on the Oilers board, but I'm going to anyway.

It is officially my new favourite thing that this seems to bother people, it actually matters to people who gets put on the cover of a video game?

Behind Enemy Lines 06-17-2008 02:40 PM

I get the hate-on for Phaneuf. Plays for the 'enemy'; hyped (somewhat overly) by knowledgeable experts; and all the other stuff that comes with being a top, young talent. That said, here is an interesting stat that puts him into very, very rare company of peers.

The kid is a phenomenal talent who at 22/23 is not yet the sum of his part. Project him at 28 and I think it will be hard to find much flaw in his game. It is basically impossible to be an all tool defenseman. Ever. Now factor in the guy in question is 22/23. Credit where credit is due. Respect where it is due:

Dion Phaneuf has connected for at least 15 goals in three seasons, all before his 22nd birthday. Only five other NHL defensemen have done so: Bobby Orr, Ray Bourque, Denis Potvin, Paul Coffey, and Phil Housley. All but Housley are in the Hall of Fame.

maybe you don't play the video games? if you were an EA fan and eagerly awaited the annual release like most sports fans under the age of 60 (unlike yourself, apparently?) then it might matter to you. Nobody wants Phaneuf's ugly mug staring back at them from the shelf in the corner of their living room 365 days a year.

Isn't the title of this thread an oxymoron? Phaneuf and 'grace' don't quite seem to fit together.

No, just his forehead.

CorpseFX 06-17-2008 03:15 PM

im only getting overly upset when his face gets on the cover of Tiger Beat, BOP or Highlights. until then, who really cares what image is on a video game container that will depreciate in value the second you buy it and 6 months later will be worth about 3 dollars at your local trade-in place?

not me.

420ilerBuzz* 06-17-2008 03:16 PM

I'll buy two copies - one to play, and one to lay a coil on.

PDO 06-17-2008 03:19 PM

I didn't know Phaneuf could grace anything...

OntOilFan 06-17-2008 03:24 PM

I created this thread solely for the one-liners that have followed.

You guys haven't let me down.

Keep them coming!

Oh I thought you were going to buy two, one for the forehead, and the other one to fit the rest of his face in.

oiler-dude 06-17-2008 04:21 PM

The good news is that many fan sites have Photoshop templates for making custom covers. Oh wait...that will soon be very very illegal. Go Canada!

jt780 06-17-2008 04:24 PM

I heard Elisha Cuthbert is on the back cover. TRUE STORY!!!

Slats432 06-17-2008 04:27 PM

He is a very good young defenseman. I am not surprised.

Although I would say that the game's case and his personality carry the same amount of flair....bahaahhaa.

pox 06-17-2008 04:40 PM

w00t EA curse :yo:

i wonder if his miata is going to be on the cover also?

I do play video games, I just couldn't really care less who they put on the cover, it just doesn't affect the experience.

I wonder if he will be wearing his Flames jersey or the pink tutu/ ballerina slipper combo.

Ogopogo* 06-17-2008 06:26 PM

Will he be having a smoke at a strip club in the picture?
