philly dangling simone gagne for a top 15th pick

wanna shed some cap room to sign Carter, eklund

MojoJojo 06-19-2008 04:58 PM

I call BS. That would have to be a very good pick.

FLYLine24 06-19-2008 05:00 PM

Hard to get any takers after the injury he's coming off of. I wouldn't go for it, great player but too much risk now..head injuries I pass on.

Big#D 06-19-2008 05:01 PM

Eklund really lives for these deadlines, doesn't he? How many threads on this board with his rumours this week?

How many today alone ?

After last seasons concussion issues I dont think Gagne is worth that but someone might be willing to take a flyer on him.

johnniewalker 06-19-2008 05:03 PM

If they dangle him too hard, he's going to get another concussion.

Gags1288 06-19-2008 05:09 PM

Seems very very unlikely.

Simon is healthy and skating again. When he's healthy, he's one of the 3 best and most important players on the team. He's coming off a concussion riddled season so that will obviously hamper his value significantly in a trade as well.

It would shock me to see Gagne dealt because I think the Flyers would only deal him for a great return and I don't think anyone will offer a great return for Gagne, as good as he is, after what he went through last season.

chromemaro 06-19-2008 05:12 PM

No trade clause ?

Unless they have reason to suspect that 1 more consussion for Gagne and he is done and they want to get some value for him now.

barrytrotzsneck 06-19-2008 05:13 PM

I'd give Nashville's number 15 for that gamble.

It doesn't make sense to me.

If he is healthy he would have to be considered a more important player to Philly than Carter so trading him in order to sign Carter would suggest that they aren't convinced he will sufficiently recover from his concussion.

In which case he isn't worth a top 15 pick.

Yes, he does have a NTC. Has there been any indication he would waive it?

This sounds like smoke with no fire to me.

Would Philadelphia take a low 1st rounder and 1(or 2) 2nd rounders, or perhaps a prospect?

There's been no indication he'd be moved. From all reports, he's 100% symptom free and has been on the ice recently. Additionally, Gagne and Holmgren agreed that Gagne will come to camp this year in better shape then he did last year.

I suppose it's POSSIBLE that Gagne could be dealt, but this is really coming out of nowhere.

HoverCarle* 06-19-2008 05:25 PM

I dont believe it.

Maybe Umberger, but not Gagne.

Tim* 06-19-2008 05:26 PM

Who's Simone Gagne? :sarcasm:

umberger imo doesn't have as much value as the injured gagne...so i doubt you get a top 20 for either, or a 1st at all for umberger

ZING!

RE-HABS 06-19-2008 05:30 PM

Back to back years with injuries, if Gagne can be a top 15 pick overall does that mean a questionable player like Bergeron in Boston could get the same in return as well???

Too many question marks surrounding Gagne and his health for such a pick, not to mention the salary that comes with Gagne as well if he turns out to be a dud...better to take a chance on the pick I think.

Enoch 06-19-2008 05:31 PM

How many years does he have left on his contract? One would think the Predators would be highly interested in such a trade....

He missed 6 games in 06-07.

He's signed for the next 3 seasons at a cap hit of $5.25 per year.

barrytrotzsneck 06-19-2008 05:39 PM

That's reasonable...

15th overall and one of Kevin Klein or Alex Sulzer?
