I dont' know much about Ruutu. I can't say this excites me. What can you guys tell me about him

tiger_80 06-20-2008 11:32 AM

If Lowe makes the move, it will be a bolt from the blue...
By the way, what about those "no one is going to deal with Oilers after the OS" speculations?

I wonder if Burke and Lowe ever talk anymore?

OntOilFan 06-20-2008 11:33 AM

Which Ruutu?

Rafters 06-20-2008 11:33 AM

there better be a 1st or more picks involved

SaucyNavel 06-20-2008 11:34 AM

often injured, hasn't lived up to his potential.Needs to play physical to be effective.

Stauffer talked about Ruutu yesterday on his show, I still think he's to expensive for a third line guy (2.25M, RFA in 08-09) which is where I would see him playing. Very similar to stoll but with less special teams ability and more ES ability (I have not actually looked this up, so maybe I'm way off base).

Plus its a E rumour so its probably BS. If he's coming here Pits better not be going the other way or I'll be PO'd

EDIT: I guess his salary in not that terrible, maybe a little overpriced for a third line guy, but why do this when you have a known commodity in Stoll if he can recover from the head issues. Just as many questions around rutuu health as stoll's

Giggli G 06-20-2008 11:35 AM

I want the Pittsburgh Ruutu to put on a line with Brodziak and Glencross.

Once dubbed the next Peter Forsberg to me he is much like Raffi Torres. The potential to burry 25+ per season with physical presence but underachieves almost every year. Supposedly he is Pitkanen's best friend so uniting the two may help.

For a 4th round pick would be super.

I want a Glencross to put on a line with Brodziak and Ruutu but, at the end of the day (July 1) I don't think that will be an option.

Rafters 06-20-2008 11:39 AM

well as long as it isn't Pitgs going the other way.....maybe Staios/Smid or Stoll/Torres...If he can stay healthy and help Pits be more comfortable then I am all for it....

So you agree it would be a good line then.

Yep...just not likely.

where did you hear this?

frag2 06-20-2008 11:45 AM

Why do we need additional broken glass?

It also states the leafs are in on something bigger than anyone expected. Maybe they will pull an unexpected....and sign Neidermayer.....so Burkie can join him later

Digger12 06-20-2008 11:46 AM

I've always had an irrational soft spot for Tuomo Ruutu, mainly to do with a highlight reel goal he scored against the Oilers where he looked like bloody Mark Messier circa '84 finals.

I probably shouldn't post in this thread, I can't be trusted for rational discourse in this matter. ;)

Much more than Ruutu would have to come the Oilers' way if Pitkanen were to go to the 'Canes. Pitkanen is worth much more than that.

I've always liked Ruutu and have been waiting for him to bust out. Will he ever? He has the potential to.

And as for his injuries...he really hasn't been a huge bandaid like some seem to think. Yes, he had that one season where he was riddled with injuries and only played 15 games but in his other 3 seasons in the NHL he's played 82, 71, and 77 games. His injury season was between the 82 games and 71 games seasons.

i want Ruutu as a Oiler

jumptheshark 06-20-2008 11:50 AM

Too injury prone for me

and a big time underachiever

rigger 06-20-2008 11:52 AM

Unless it's Ruutu + Williams then Pitkanen won't be involved in the trade.

I like Ruutu, in a full season I think he's a 20-20-40 player and a good addition to a team that might be losing Torres and Glencross. But he doesn't hold any more value to me then a 3rd liner and he's over paid for that. So he better come on the cheap.

he also didn't play the entire lockout year because of an injury so in 5 seasons he's essentially missed 2 seasons (albeit one was the lockout year)and I think the nature of his injury which at the time was considered possibly career ending is more of an issue then the frequency

:help:

Shocked you guys are even discussing this. Outside of Pitkanen or Gilbert, I don't see any deals between the two clubs, and the Hurricanes aren't going to mortgage the future or Williams for either player to go along with Rutuu. This is Eklund we are talking about here.

Heavy Dee 06-20-2008 12:00 PM

i could see smid for Ruuttu...

surshot* 06-20-2008 12:00 PM

I would take both ruutu brothers. There not exactly nice to play against.

Man its draft day, If my one year old said something even close to Ruutu we would be talking about. Relax and do not be so shocked.
