Josh Bailey Scouting Report

Just so this doesn't get lost in the shuffle. Seems as though this pick is the status quo of the Islanders the past couple of years.

Strengths: The solid two-way forward has been Windsor’s best player from the
beginning of the season. He has put up hoards of points with his strong
playmaking abilities, vision and anticipation. He skates well enough to get to
were he’s going and has a decent burst of acceleration. He is a tireless worker
and plays solid along the boards. He has been able to add a good grit factor this
season. Bailey is very defensively responsible with solid defensive positioning
and reads. He drives the net and cycles well down low. Offensively he has a
good shot but his strength is his ability to set-up teammates.

Weakness: Skating needs to improve if he is to play the same solid two-way
game at the next level. He also could use an added physical element as he
frequently backs off his aggressive play when pushed around. Improved strength
could go along way to improving both these areas.

Terrible.

Chapin Landvogt 06-20-2008 07:46 PM

Certainly no reason to criticize this guy.

It seems the Isles wanted him from the get-go.

I still just do not know how you deal that 5th without bringing back another 1st rounder AND a young player who can help right away in the process.

I simply want to know why the Islanders' scouts feel they know these things BETTER than the rest of the scouting world.

CodeE 06-20-2008 07:47 PM

Yes! A two way forward! That's the missing piece in the puzzle!

Tim* 06-20-2008 07:47 PM

he's going to bust along with every other pick this draft

Trottier was a two-way forward too.

Look. I'm not saying the Isles did well. I don't think they did at all. But it's not fair to hate the kid for being put in this situation. Not fair at all.

It's very possible he becomes a very good player, yknow? He'd be a top 10 pick last year easily.

They wanted ALEX PIETRANGELO, the kid they picked up was just a name they picked out of a hat after their precious plan fell apart.

Koobs11 06-20-2008 07:49 PM

yeah i dont think they ever wanted filatov. it was going to be one of the "big 3" or we were going to see what we saw today, moving down to pick up someone less heralded.

Yashin for President 06-20-2008 07:53 PM

honestly, from what Gollof wrote on hockeybuzz, the fans are pissed and for a decent reason.. But in all fairness we have a ton of picks.. I would grade him when the 1st 3 rounds are over.. But the isles are still on the small side with this pick, and by the report it doesnt look like he could make the NHL this year.. I dunno, I as a lot of people wanted Filatov.. I'm just going to wait till tmmrw afternoon until i lose my cool...

Filatov shouldn't be in the NHL this year either.

bigtimeIslesFan 06-20-2008 07:55 PM

He is much better than a two way foward

Guy is a 50 assist type of guy who can net 15 goals. 60-65 points is a fair assumption for him(most of them assists), but most value is how he will IMPROVE our other players

TheIslesFan 06-20-2008 07:58 PM

this is actually not a bad pick

maybe we move up later in the first

CodeE 06-20-2008 08:00 PM

What other players? We don't have anyone that can score!

I distinctly recall a poll somewhere (Isles website?) where they asked what kind of player we should draft.

Two-way forward was 2nd to last, after goaltender.

Okposo
Comeau
Bergenheim

All have the potential to score with him centering. Not to mention he is going to be playing for us for years. We will draft shooters in the up and coming drafts. We can't get everything in one draft. We get the playmaker in this draft. We'll get his shooters in the up and coming drafts

Titan124 06-20-2008 08:04 PM

Terrible automatic bust. No chance of doing anything in his career. We should just release him now.

I guess being a 2 way forward is a negative thing, I mean, who would want a center that can put up points (96, by the way) and play defense. I'd rather have a player like Boedker who has no defensive element to his game and gets less points. Seriously though, points aren't everything but besides Stamkos there is not one more player in the OHL who scored as much as him. How can you not say he doesn't have star potential when he is scoring 11 points less than the consensus A1 step below sidney crosby Steven Stamkos. He also seems to have that Trent Hunter element where he can play defense and get no penalties, evidenced by the fact that he had only 32 PIM.

Even if it's just stats, I reccomend doing some research into this kid before you bash him, because I guarantee you'll be thoroughly impressed.

Tim* 06-20-2008 08:05 PM

Filatov is a playmaker and a better one

NObody is bashing the kid. We are bashing the idiots who tradeddown from the 5th pick where they could have drafted a "cornerstone" piece to a guy who well very well be a very good hockey player, but not the guy to take you above and beyond.

Stealth JD 06-20-2008 08:09 PM

Why does it not surprise me to see the Islanders being the first club to go off the board? I've got a feeling that they're trying to prove to everyone that they're the smartest people in the room, and it saddens me...for the sake of the fans anyway. This may be a tremendous pick in the long run...but at the moment, I'm just left shaking my head even though I really shouldn't be surprised.

bigtimeIslesFan 06-20-2008 08:11 PM

Why does it surprise people that we didnt go with filatov/schenn?
we couldn't even get a consensus IN THIS BOARD of who people wanted for that 5th pick

:dunno:

Isles could of had Luke Shenn or Nikita Filatov... i feel sick.

HyeDray 06-20-2008 08:12 PM

they botched it.

I was at the NVMC and half of the fans got up and left after they traded the 7 pick.

Most of the remaining fans walked out after they mentioned this guys name.

This franchise is a joke.

I have been defending Snow to this point because I felt like he needed a fair chance at this draftóbut unless this guy is a Calder Candidate and a consistent 80-90 point guy, they totally blew it.

Snow is the least of our problems.

Charles Wang must be put out of the equation. He is a joke. He may have money, but he has done more to hurt then help. No respectible GM will ever come here even if Snow goes. The problem is the owner.

I have not been this disappointed since we lost the 5th cup.

We could have had Filatov or Schenn and we passed. This is Mike Rupp in 98 all over again.

Pathetic!!!!!

Any Islander fan would had been happy with either or. Instead we get another 40pt two way player, if he ever makes the team. If he turns out to be any good then surely he will be traded before we ever get to see it.
