Rangers Resign Parenteau

Looks like Slats managed to sign at least one player so far this week.

Howlings with the press release: Link

If this doesn't deserve it's own thread, sorry. ;)

I think it's a good signing, he's a guy I'd like to see get a shot at the big club.

Forechecker 06-26-2008 09:56 AM

I just put that in the Wolfpack thread, but dat's kewl.

DontStepanMe 06-26-2008 09:56 AM

Ah. Sorry, should have thought to read that first.

Good signing, top line guy in Hartford, that allows other kids to learn pro hockey on the second and third. When you have no vets in the AHL, you are not providing a good opportunity for kids to learn. Paranteau could probably fill some minutes of a scorer in the NHL if we were to have injury problems as well. Hartford must be competitive to make it a good place for kids like AA, Pyatt, Dupont, etc. to continue developing. That said, sign Lenny and Miika, we need good goaltenders in the system, I fear having to depend upon Valiquette for more than our Flyers games.

If it hadn't been for Andrew Hutchinson, Parenteau would have been the Pack's MVP this year. He had a knack for coming up with the big goals, and his cross-crease passes on the power play were a thing of beauty. I hope he gets a shot to make the big club in the fall, but if he doesn't, I'll be thrilled to have him back on the Pack.

Great job resigning this guy even if it isn't a huge move. I'd love to see him in Hartford again but he should be given a serious shot in New York.

Nemchinov13 06-26-2008 10:30 AM

Does this guy have NHL talent? I haven't watched any Wolfpack games, hence the question. He dominates the A, but is he the case of Brad Smyth and Derek Armstrong?

SupersonicMonkey* 06-26-2008 10:34 AM

Honestly a little shocked because i didn't think he fit into their long term plans, but not surprised either based on the season he had in Hartford.

I think this means he has a legit shot at the NHL roster this year, considering there are at least short term holes to fill.

Perhaps we can pull a deal with Buffalo; Prucha for Afinogenov.

Give Jagr his 2 year deal.

And you've filled all the holes while keeping the years and cost down.

Drury - Dubinsky - Jagr
Dawes - Gomez - Afinogenov
Korpikoski - Anisimov - Parenteau
Byers/Orr - Betts - Callahan

Bluenote13 06-26-2008 10:36 AM

We need some guys who can play in Hartford, keeps competition going amongst the young forwards.

Turambar 06-26-2008 10:46 AM

does this mean we'll owe Chicago a pick?

no, he had to play a certain number of games last year, i believe.
and i was not expecting him to be signed. he should get a shot on the 3rd next year

no, cause he is only 25 years old and can still make it as a late bloomer, but was not given a shot as of yet, he aint some 29 year old AHL to yet play a game.

I want no part of Max Afinogenov. soft, turns the puck over, major defensive liability, and he has no hands. I am glad that he is really fast, but that seems to be his only asset.

He scores goals.

He posses a legit offensive threat.

He is a top 6 forward.

And his contract expires after next season.

The new NHL revolves around skill and speed.

Plus, he wouldn't cost much, probably why Buffalo hasn't traded him yet.

Not even close.

Fata has 27 NHL goals.

Afinogenov has 128.

Trxjw 06-26-2008 11:14 AM

I don't think Afino's game meshes with Gomez's. I predict another Gomez - Jagr scenario.

Ok, back on topic. ;)

Exactly, plus as someone said above it's great to have a Vet AHLer with the kids down there.
