Dandenault

With all the buyouts / waiver action that there has been in the last week, shouldn't Gainey consider waiving or maybe even buying out some of our dead weight, mainly Dandenault. I'm not to sure how the money works and what the cap hit would be if we do chose to buy him out but from what we saw last year, his role on this team is non existant. What do you guys think.

znk 06-27-2008 03:02 PM

I think Gainey said he did not expect to Buyout or waive anyone. And the title could use a little work. You might get people's hopes up.

hototogisu 06-27-2008 03:02 PM

I absolutely think he should be bought out (your thread title kinda got my hopes up). He's useless as a defenseman and we have no room for him as a forward.

anarmandaleb 06-27-2008 03:02 PM

Gainey said he wasn't going to buy anyone out.

Artyukhin* 06-27-2008 03:03 PM

toronto?

Goldthorpe 06-27-2008 03:05 PM

He will be kept as a extra forward.

Buying him out and hiring someone else to do the same job will cost more than simply sticking up with him for one more year.

Plus, if we come to that, he is still someone we can use at any position in case of emergency.

x-bob 06-27-2008 03:06 PM

Sorry about the title guys I only realised that it might be confusing once I posted it. Also, is there any reason why we shouldn't buy him out? What would the cap hit look like if we did?

No, they'd like an asset for Sundin. Not someone to sit on his asset.

Blind Gardien 06-27-2008 03:12 PM

There have been threads on this one before. It just doesn't make much economic sense to buy out Dandy. By the time you've put $580k on the cap for two years and spent another similar amount (minimum) to replace his spot in the lineup, you've basically exceeded the $1.75M he has left. We don't seem to be in any cash crunch this season, so better to just ride out this year and remain free of the commitment afterwards.

Of course, I also wouldn't hesitate to spend all of his money on July 1st if that's what it took to really improve the team. You can always McGillisize him if necessary.

One Man Rock Band 06-27-2008 03:12 PM

Yeah, he'll be the 14th forward, unless Gainey can find a taker. As our team stands right now;

A. KOSTITSYN - T. PLEKANEC - A. KOVALEV
A. TANGUAY - S. KOIVU - G. LATENDRESSE
C. HIGGINS - M. GRABOVSKI - S. KOSTITSYN
M. LAPIERRE - K. CHIPCHURA - T. KOSTOPOULOS
M. DANDENAULT, S. BEGIN

A. MARKOV - M. KOMISAREK
R. HAMRLIK - R. O'BYRNE
F. BOUILLON - J. GORGES
UFA

C. PRICE
J. HALAK

It sucks because I'd really, really like for Gregory Stewart or Matt D'Agostini to get a chance, but it doesn't look like they will.

Well, there's still one spot left in your roster, so there will be one more player added to the team. I would keep Dandenault as the extra defenseman and add Stewart to that lineup.

Of course, that will all change once Sundin signs!! :naughty:

David_99 06-27-2008 03:23 PM

We had too many bottom 6 forwards last season with a few not happy with their ice time. Now if we have 3 offensive lines + the rookies trying to make the team, we'll need to "purge" some bodies/salary in the area, me thinks. Dandy tops the list. I think Begin has one more good season in him before his arm falls off. Stewart can replace him if there's an injury and take his spot in 2009-2010.

That would make him an 'ass-sit', right.;)

bhuya71 06-27-2008 03:36 PM

would love it if he actually did get bought out but ya not worth it.... even though i like cube i wouldn't mind seeing him gone or being the 7th so a young guy like pavel tank can get a chance

waffledave 06-27-2008 03:38 PM

He's so ****ing terrible. I tried defending him for so long but it's simply impossible. Get rid of him, he's a waste of space.

He played some good games at the beginning of last season.

habfan4 06-27-2008 03:44 PM

Dandenault won't be waived or bought out, the Habs will hang onto him for injury insurance purposes. He won't play much (hopefully) but as a veteran he'll be given the opportunity to retire a Hab or leave at the end of the season.

IMO Kostopoulos took his spot away with his play during the playoffs.

He's only what, 32, 33? He's going to want to play.

I'm not sure he's capable of playing in the new NHL (despite being a decent skater). Whatever happens, I don't think he has a future with the Canadiens past this year.

Exactly, if we absolutely need that 1.75M cap space then send him to Hamilton. He's gonna get paid the big bucks but it won't count against the cap.

Im comfortable with him as an extra body. He can help out on D for short period of times so the guys in Hamilton won't have to be called up for 1 or 2 games. Upfront he was solid early on last year but it's gonna be hard for him to get a spot.

HCH 06-27-2008 04:27 PM

I think Dandenault might be a candidate to be traded rather than bought out. He isn't completely useless and his salary isn't exhorbitant. Those qualities might make him attractive to someone. If the Habs buy him out it will cost us over $800,000 against our cap and that is room we will badly need over the next couple of years.

On the other hand an additional draft choice for 2009, even if it is a mid to late-rounder, would be a nice plum with the draft being held in Montreal

LyricalLyricist 06-27-2008 04:32 PM

No need to buy him out, injuries happen and only for us. Maybe in the season, a team will get some bad injury trouble and we'll have a taker. For now gainey said no buyouts so I guess thats what it is.

Habs8517 06-27-2008 04:46 PM

Trade or put him in waivers
No need to buy him out or let him rot in the pressbox
