Shanahan to Devils?

A free agent at noon today, Brendan Shanahan isn't going to glue a Bluetooth to his ear in anticipation of the call that probably won't come from the Blueshirts.

Rather, The Post has been told to expect the 39-year-old winger to go home again - home to New Jersey to complete the circle of his first-ballot worthy Hall of Fame career that commenced with the DevilsNew Jersey Devils in 1987-88.

Yeah, I almost fell off my chair too. ;)

rangerfan_79 07-01-2008 06:31 AM

Love shanny but he is done.

Hall of fame career but time to call it quits.

I Am Chariot 07-01-2008 07:13 AM

I dont buy it.

nyr2k2 07-01-2008 07:21 AM

If he wants to go to the Debs, fine by me.

FATCHAMALA11 07-01-2008 07:30 AM

This will be him first game in while reaching for his Life Alert.

I really hope that's not true. That's obviously one of the two places I don't want him to go.

Forechecker 07-01-2008 08:54 AM

I don't see him having the patience for Sutter's crap. I think he retires and joins the NHLPA.

HockeyBasedNYC 07-01-2008 08:56 AM

I really dont want to see that Shanny pump after he beats Henrik.

please...

Well if the Rangers don't want him back I say best of luck.............he's a hall of famer

NYRMatt 07-01-2008 09:18 AM

Shanahan has the right to go anywhere he wants. If he goes to the Devils, I pledge to not hate on him at all. He's a great man and a class act.

Blueshirt Brawler 07-01-2008 09:19 AM

Thanks for a couple of great years Shanny. The Devils probably would welcome him with open arms. He'll be another guy who doesn't score for them after January 1st.

Agreed, very classy guy and I thoroughly enjoyed his tenure with us.

TomLaidlaw 07-01-2008 09:26 AM

I would be ecstatic if he went to the Devils. This would be a move the Rangers would make during the dark ages. Signing an old vet who is clearly done away from the Devils, except now it would be the reverse.

That is exactly why I seriously doubt it happens haha.

These two franchises are certainly reversing roles aren't they? It's so funny. The Devils are still finding a way to remain competitive but it's funny to see them act like the old Rangers sometimes.

FLYLine24 07-01-2008 09:29 AM

I hope he goes. That way after 20 games we won't have to worry about him and he'll just waste a roster spot on the 2nd line with the devils scoring 1 goal every 30 games.

Except that the Devils would probably use him correctly (ie limit his mins) making him a much more effective player.

I was saying this was a good spot for Shanny for months now, he lives in NYC & want's to stay there, he clearly want's to play one or two more years, lets face it he see's 700 goals on he horzion & want's to take a shot at it, I can't blame him for that.

The Devils need secondary scoring & leadership, it is a good fit for both parties.

Fletch 07-01-2008 10:59 AM

Good luck to Shanny...

getting to 700 goals...with 50 to go, I really don't see how he gets there...

As I said in the earlier post he would need two years, & it's possible.

nyrcallahan24 07-01-2008 11:35 AM

I dont trust what newspapers say because they said the rangers werent going to sign aves, shanny, or jags, then two days later they said they were getting them all. never believe what you read in newspapers.

Pizza 07-01-2008 11:50 AM

What ever.

He likes being near the city. So be it.

Brooklyn Ranger 07-01-2008 02:55 PM

Really couldn't care less, as long as he's not on the Ranger roster.
