Hossa Update

According to TSN there is “zero percent chance” of Marian Hossa signing anywhere today. He’ll be taking some more time to think about his options.

Consider this the Hossa rumor thread until then—there’s certainly enough of them floating around.

GKJ 07-01-2008 06:16 PM

No, TSN said he'll wait another day.

xeric716x 07-01-2008 06:16 PM

interesting, i wonder what kind of offers he was getting.

Shoalzie 07-01-2008 06:18 PM

I bet he signs on Thursday. I had predicted that Campbell would sign first, then Hossa by the end of this week and Sundin would take close to two weeks to decide what he wants to do.

poeman 07-01-2008 06:19 PM

I envision the isles offering 21 years 10 mil/per (e5)

ReLyT 07-01-2008 06:19 PM

gives the Hawks the whole night to shed salary!

Plan Z?

TSN says Edmonton has the inside track on Marian Hossa, with Canadiens running third.

And the phone-in schmucks have started blasting Bob Gainey on CKAC

My hope is that the Oilers and Hossa have an agreement and will announce it tomorrow when the Oilers' new Owner makes his first public appearence since taking over the team this past week.

Still think he's staying in Pittsburgh. :yo:

I hope. I see it as doubtful at the present time though v_v I would love to see him wear the black and gold here.

Coach Parker 07-01-2008 06:27 PM

How does he sign in Edmonton with 4 mil in space, and Edmonton just acquiring Cole? Where are you shedding after trading Torres and Pitkinen?

Does that put the Pens in 2nd?

HabsoluteFate 07-01-2008 06:28 PM

#1 this was not first reported by Hecklard. if you look at what he reported nothing has come to fruition today unless he reported it after the deal was made and known everywhere else.

It was reported on TSN first...i was watching

#2 it is not a rumour. Edmonton was interviewed and they said the Hossa camp was not going to decide today

TSN just listed 4 teams. Edmonton, NY Rangers, Montreal and the Penguins. they didn't list 1, 2, 3 and 4.

ReLyT 07-01-2008 06:30 PM

hawks were in the running...

TSN made it clear that Edmonton are pushing the hardest. Apparently they've said they will match any offer and have already had a "member of their roster" talk to Hossa on the phone to tell him about the city of Edmonton.

They specifically said the Oilers were the front runners.

You gotta think it would be Hemsky. I bet Visnkovsky makes things a little more appealing too....and the money.

tiger_80 07-01-2008 06:38 PM

Do Rangers have cap space with so much money tied up in Gomez, Drury, Lundquist and now also Roszival with a whole bunch of players unsigned?

Penguins I don't think will be able to offer what Edmonton will.

I think that basically leaves Oilers and MTL as the only serious contenders.

Add Redden to that list at 6.5 per.

MaKi 07-01-2008 06:40 PM

Of the 4 teams I think Montreal would have the easiest time paying him the $$$.
Especially since the Rangers just signed Redden at 6.5/6 years.
