Two Overloaded teams on D

As it stands right now, there are several teams with too many blueliners

San Jose:

Boyle
Blake
Ehroff
Vlasic
McClaren
Rivet
Murray
Lukowich

Florida:

Bouwmeester
Van Ryn
Ballard
Boynton
Allen
Skrastins
Welch
Murphy

With Atlanta, Buffalo, Ottawa, and Philadelpia all looking for blueliners, what kind of moves are we going to see

GKJ 07-04-2008 10:38 AM

Well the Flyers have like 10 defensemen that they think could make the team, so that would be interesting.

Whoops, add them to the overloaded list instead of the seeking list. I just assumed since they were in in Boyle they were looking.

Pete Mitchell 07-04-2008 10:42 AM

Add Vlasic to the sharks list.

John-Eric Iannicello 07-04-2008 10:44 AM

Toronto is backed up on Defence.

Add the Pens to that list also. We have 8 NHL dmen that are all top 6 ability and the best AHL dman (Goligoski). I think Shero would trade one for a winger.:)

Yep.

McCabe
Kubina
White

Are expendable

I could see the Habs being interested in another d-man as well. They have a very good top 3, and then a bunch of 5-6 types as options right now.

Cambion 07-04-2008 10:47 AM

waivers could get interesting

ajsonor 07-04-2008 10:49 AM

So what are the needs in San Jose, Philly, & Fla?

I would gladly take Vlasic off the Sharks' hands.

I know Florida could use a new GM, and just about any decent forward out there.

Now that would be a tad pricey and IMO he's likely the last guy SJ would trade from their d-corps.

RAZZIE King 07-04-2008 10:56 AM

The Kings need defense badly as well...and just think of the waiver wire if the right defenseman falls to us...

Ice Cream Man 07-04-2008 10:59 AM

Well, in Calgary there's...

Phaneuf
Regehr
Aucoin
Sarich
Giordano
Vandermeer
Warrener
Eriksson
Pardy

... and Sutter was heavily involved in the mix for Redden. Calgary has an extra defenseman to spare, and all of them are quality, reasonably-priced D-men (minus the quality part for Eriksson).

The Kings are also way under the minimum cap. I'm sure the Devils have a few extra D's that we could trade you.

Paul Martin
Colin White
Bryce Salvador
Vitaly Vishnevski <---- especially this guy
Mike Mottau
Andy Greene
Johnny Oduya
Sheldon Brookbank

ducky 07-04-2008 11:05 AM

Phoenix needs a number 3/4 guy but it appears they are going with Sauer in that role.

Hope last year was his new level of play and not an aberration.

Angels for Everyone 07-04-2008 11:07 AM

the Wings also have 10 defensmen

Lidstrom
Rafalski
Stuart
Kronwall
Lebda
Lilja
Chelios
Meech
Quincey
Ericsson

they'll only be carrying 8 of them

With the Nikulin signing seemingly imminent, I think you can take Atlanta off that list. They may have Klee or Exelby available.

Enstrom, Havelid, Hainsey, [Nikulin], Klee, Exelby, Bogosian, Valabik.

Magnus Fulgur 07-04-2008 11:09 AM

Atlanta is about to be log-jammed too!

Havelid
Enstrom
Hainsey
Nikulin - he's coming over this season!
Bogosian
Exelby
Klee
Valabik
Popovic - he's not signed, but they could have him no problem.
Zubarev was supposed to come over too if he was needed.

danishh 07-04-2008 11:10 AM

ottawa currently has 4 d-men. 4!

Exelby could be available ?? :amazed:

I've always seen him as a beast on the blueline... has his play regressed this last season or is it simply because there are better dmen coming in that role ?

If he's available, damn I would welcome him on the Habs anyday !

#57 07-04-2008 11:21 AM

I could see Kyle McLaren heading to Buffalo.

Montreal could be looking for a #4 that is not too overpaid and could be had for picks/prospects.

I'm not sure who could fit in though. Any ideas?

no duh.

I think they're more likely to part with McLaren, who could find a home with the Avalanche?
