How much is he expected to get?

Brooklyn Ranger 07-05-2008 05:30 PM

No wonder the Blue Jackets were willing to throw him into the deal.

Carlos Ranger 07-05-2008 05:35 PM

I'll say he doesn't get a cent more than 1.4mil

FLYLine24 07-05-2008 05:36 PM

He's not going to get over 1.5, so i'm not worried.

Draft Guru 07-05-2008 05:41 PM

I think he elected arbitration to make sure he has a contract and is in camp on time, but I have a feeling they will work out a deal before they ever get to the hearing. No worries here, IMO.

GarretJoseph* 07-05-2008 05:41 PM

trade him.

shoothepuck 07-05-2008 05:45 PM

He's looking out for himself. 1.5 should be his max.

cmb572 07-05-2008 06:10 PM

can someone explain this to me? i never really understand what the deal is with arbitration. does it mean that the player and team cant come to an agreement on what the player is worth so they go to a hearing for it? or am i completely wrong?

It just means that SHOULD the player and team not come to an agreement, one would be reached by the arbitrator. Unless the Rangers decline the decision, Fritsche is guaranteed a contract by going to arbitration.
However, he and the team could come to an agreement prior to arbitration.

Anyone know if he can play wing as well as center?

I think even that is too much. Rissmiller and Voros got $1M each so Fritsche is too far above those two. Granted he has more potential but he's been in the league long enough to not get paid on potential anymore. If I'm Sather I'd argue $1M. $1.2M should be the final figure. Man, we need to make some room on the roster badly. Log Jam!

Pretty sure he does.

Fire Sather 07-05-2008 06:40 PM

Dont get the "trade him" comments.

We just got a new player who looks to be a solid 35 pt 3rd line guy.. maybe some PK work.

Lets see what hes got for the season..

I was about to type the same exact thing... The kid is 22 years old with AT LEAST a 20G upside... 10 Goals last year working with 12min of average ice-time is pretty damn good (including 4GWGs)... Clutch...

Lundqvist=Vezina 07-05-2008 06:44 PM

I think the Rangers will sign him before the hearing.

Celestial Black 07-05-2008 07:22 PM

It should be dealt with and fine.

cbjgirl 07-05-2008 08:46 PM

I don't know whether Fritsche has the same agent or not, but last time he needed a new contract (with XGMDM) he signed at the 11th hour after XGMDM told him he wouldn't be welcome in camp until the contract was signed.

I like Fritsche as a player but there was a quote by Howson during a press conference that was very interesting.

http://bluejackets.nhl.tv/team/console then select the Day 2 press conference Starts talking about Fritsche at about 5:12

maybe sather moves betts for defensive help on d. i can see fritsche making betts expendable.

Not sure how this is a bad thing.

This allows a third party to judge his value.

He won't be expensive, and it guarantees that he will be a Ranger for at least next year. I'm sure they'll work something out more longer term after that.

Rather sign him long term now before he potentially has a breakout season this year. 1.2 should be fair.

i completely agree. ive watched highlights of this guy and he looks like could be a solid solid third line center who can score some goals. this guys a keeper.

SupersonicMonkey* 07-05-2008 10:39 PM

Not sure he will be a center for us.

At least not beyond this season.

Once Anisimov is up, i think he will be moved to wing full time.

Renion 07-06-2008 12:35 AM

He has basically always been a wing in the NHL. I've always wanted to see how he'd do when used consistently as a center, but if that's what happens with NY, I wouldn't expect any miracles. (Not because I think he can't handle it, but because he hasn't really played as a center since before he was drafted.)
