Simon Gagne

Would the habs have any interest in him? I know it's bad timing with Tanguey. We'd be looking for picks. He is under contract for 3 more years at 5 mill.

SpreeEndaz 07-05-2008 05:39 PM

He won't be traded, next topic please.

Three cncussions last year..... I don't think so.... I think he's headed the way of Primeau, Lindros....

Philly has some bad concussion doctors.

Apparently they let Gagne come back too fast last year.... Terrible decision given the history of bad head injuries in that franchise.

shawnyboy24 07-05-2008 05:43 PM

what??????????????????????

are you a flyers fan?Of course we would be interested.I know he got hurt but he s still a 40 goal scorer, you guys would be crazy to trade him for picks!!!!

Bermy 07-05-2008 05:50 PM

I would love to get Gagne

xeric716x 07-05-2008 05:55 PM

not with head problems

Arctic_Hab_Fan 07-05-2008 06:01 PM

If Tylenol and the like can cure Concussions, trade away :)

JHabs 07-05-2008 06:05 PM

I'd prefer to gun for Marian Gaborik or Martin Havlat (last resort) if we were shopping for players.

He WAS a 40 goal scorer.

He played 25G last year and scored 7G...
Nobody can know how he'll play next year. The more you have concussions, the easier it is to get another one..

fixed that for you :)

JHabs 07-05-2008 06:28 PM

Gaborik has been doing great, not as injury prone as Havlat.

*edit* WOO 500 posts.

bipolarhabfan 07-05-2008 06:55 PM

Do not need a lettuce head. The Flyers should be ashamed of themselves for the way in which they handle head injuries.

Habs10Habs 07-05-2008 06:59 PM

I've always liked Gagne and wished he was a Hab. But with his past concussion problems, I would be too scared to take the chance.

Truthfully I would love to have Gaborik on the Habs, living in Vancouver I have seen him playing against the Canucks a ton.
But given that he just played his first 'almost' full season in four years I would be very worried about giving up the players the Wild would want in return for him. Likewise, it would suck to give up a lot of our cap space for some one who may only play 45-60 games in a given season.

edit: congrats on 500 posts!

Teufelsdreck 07-05-2008 07:08 PM

I would have loved drafting him instead of that Chouinard dud in 2008 but it's far too late. He's a key Flyer, he's very expensive, he has a history of concussion, and he's a LEFT-SHOOTING LEFT WING, a position at which the Habs are actually overstocked.

Sined 07-05-2008 07:14 PM

Yeah the Flyers Doctors ****ed up badly with Gagner.

He was only a 40 goal scorer while being centered by one of the best players of the modern era (Peter Forsberg). Without him, he maxed out at 33 goals and later on 24 goals. And that was while he was healthy. Gagne, great player, but too much liability - pass

Phillie would probably give him away, but it's a huge financial risk, nearly 1/10th of your cap on a player that might not even play a game.

TheAntiprice* 07-05-2008 07:52 PM

^hi friend :)

it's a hit or miss with Gagne, you know he'll easily score 30+ if he can play 70 games...Does anybody know when his contract expires? If it's next season and if Sundin doesn't make his decision to sign with us before September then I think Gagne's worth a shot...

He's signed through the 2010/11 season.

Team_Spirit 07-05-2008 08:03 PM

Id take him anytime.

If he play 82g watch him score 40+ this year.

HABitual Fan 07-05-2008 08:04 PM

Unless you have plans for the capspace there is no risk. If he is able to play you get a pure goalscorer for 3 years at a decent salary, if not he goes on LTIR and you can exceed the salary cap in order to replace him in the line-up.

The risk is the picks you gie up....

And we do have plans for the cap space its resigning komi, higgins, tanguay, kovalev, koivu, plekanec, price, and sergei over the next few years.....

We plan to always use ou cap space anyway.... It makes more sense for a team like Nashville who doesn't spend to the cap to make this type of move

And or those saying IF he can stay healthy he'll do well... I agree with you, he's a good hockey player. But I just think that is unlikely, once you have concussion problems, future concussions are easier to get.

Arctic_Hab_Fan 07-05-2008 08:15 PM

reading this thread and all the posts, I'm starting to think theres a miracle cure for Concussions...

To high of a risk in a cap world.
