2.5 million a year

pitseleh 07-08-2008 04:50 PM

Hahaha, they must be getting the Canucks back for Backes. That's an alright deal as far as I'm concerned.

Shane 07-08-2008 04:50 PM

HAHAHAHA! LP is now my most favouritist GM in the league! Well played sir, well played.

I actually joked about this exact same thing with my buddy the other day. Wow.

Canucks match easily. No problem. Otherwise they'd be getting a 2nd round pick in return for a 2nd and a 3rd.

Knucklez 07-08-2008 04:50 PM

Okay, I panicked, but that's very matchable.

Drop the Sopel 07-08-2008 04:50 PM

This could hurt us. Davidson probably see's Bernier putting up big numbers next year and a 1 year deal will hurt us in the summer of '09. Vindictive move with no intention of acquiring Bernier.

OlliMackBjugStud 07-08-2008 04:50 PM

i think its funny!

however, does this mean that Steve didnt want to play for the Canucks or was this just a means to an end?

As far as I'm concerned thats perfect value for him and I hope its a multi-year contract.

Spawn 07-08-2008 04:51 PM

This is pretty funny, I'm not gonna lie.

vancityluongo 07-08-2008 04:51 PM

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

This made my day. Gillis should take match right away though. They did, and it was a classy move, so that's the least Gillis could do.

Hope that ends any bad blood between the two teams.

Brownie 07-08-2008 04:52 PM

Doesn't really matter. I figured Bernier would get a contract in this dollar figure, so Gillis will match it.

NOTENOUGHBREWER 07-08-2008 04:53 PM

It's like when that guy shot a puck at Bieksa so Bieksa caught it and shot it back at him :handclap:

All joking aside Bernier will be overpaid this year, but so will Backes so all is fair.

Drop the Sopel 07-08-2008 04:53 PM

Why the **** would Bernier sign it. I would be pretty pissed at him if I was Gillis and the Canucks. Stick the kid on the 3rd line and keep his production to a minimum. Absolute garbage by Bernier if he signed it.

YogiCanucks 07-08-2008 04:53 PM

I REALLY hope this is a Long term deal. THANK YOU BLUES if it is. Benier at 2.5 for 7 years????

well, Gillis I don't think wanted to pay him that much, or else he would've just sent him a offer sheet and kept the 3rd round pick. I think Gillis was probably offering around 2M, and hoping Bernier would accept.

St. Louis offers 2.5, Bernier accepts knowing Gillis will match. Good deal for him.

tantalum 07-08-2008 04:54 PM

NIce. My hope is that the offer sheet will become more common. IT adds an extra element of excitement to the offseason and a GM needs to increase his skill set to guard against and properly execute an offer sheet.

Well played St. Louis well played. I'm sure Gillis is having a good chuckle and raising a glass to Davidson.

YogiCanucks 07-08-2008 04:55 PM

Any details on the term would be great.

Hopefully this pushes us over the minimum.

Get over yourself. Should Kesler be demoted to Manitoba for signing his offer sheet?

Turnabout is fair play. Gillis should have known this was a likely occurrence as soon as he signed Backes. It's his own fault for not signing Bernier immediately after the trade.

Holding a stupid grudge like that does nothing to help the team. Whats done is done. We match the offer and focus back on signing Sundin.

I broke into laughter once I saw this. I swear this is just GMs having fun.

The Blues have signed Group II free agent forward Steve Bernier to an offer sheet worth $2.5 million for next season.
I'm guessing by this then that it's a one year deal?

Not as big a "fan" of the move if so. This means if Bernier has a monster season with the twins this year, he'll be expecting a big raise. ****, I have to admit though, pretty clever from JD.

OntOilFan 07-08-2008 04:58 PM

Why did Bernier sign it?

St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today that the club has signed Group II free agent forward Steve Bernier to an offer sheet worth $2.5 million for next season.

Bobby Lou 07-08-2008 05:00 PM

Eh. That's about what I figured it would cost to sign him.

snepsts27 07-08-2008 05:00 PM

Very good move by the Blues, like others I think it's pretty funny.

PS Larry Pleau is the GM not Davidson who is the President.
