weiman eh? why wouldn't they have qualified him if they were going to re-sign him?

Coug555 07-14-2008 05:10 PM

This is good but this means McCormick is putting up a fight.

WarriorOfGandhi 07-14-2008 05:10 PM

Schweet, I thought they had given up on Wieman for whatever reason. Here's hoping he beats out Raycroft in training camp

Yea, I hope Wieman and Bucashihua give Raycroft some good competition.

I think McCormick's days as an Av are over.

boz 07-15-2008 02:25 AM

must say im surprised with weiman..not giving him the Q/O n all..

so with cash n weiman does that mean Mike Wall is the odd one out now?
I hope not he was pretty solid for the monsters considering the d..

Doctor No 07-15-2008 10:04 AM

I could see Cash beating out Raycroft in camp, although I'm still holding out hope that Raycroft's relationship with Hackett will help him get back to Calder form.

Good to see both keepers signed, though. I still miss Tom Lawson.

he got a QO, he'll be back unless we trade him...

Jori 07-15-2008 10:25 AM

I think Cash and Weiman are better LEM options then Wall. Next summer will be interesting as the Avs have to make decisions about Sauer and Cann.

"McLeod, 24, signed a two-way contract. He would earn $522,500 if he plays in the NHL and considerably less if he is sent to the minors."

wasn't $522,500 the QO for the OTHER Cody? McLeod's should have been $539,000

Yes it was. I wonder if they got the numbers right. I remember last year the Denver Post reported Sauer's salary that was $250.00 below his QO, but IB's numbers came back that Sauer signed for his QO. They could have just calculated the QO's, and picked the wrong Cody. Where'd you see those numbers, they weren't in the RMN article?

Ahh, there it is. I wonder if I just missed it, or if they're updating it cause I didn't see it there a few minutes ago. It'll be interesting to see if those are the correct numbers.

I don't recall seeing the figure earlier either, but then again I did take a quick glance at it. Probably just missed it I suppose.

McCormick signed and Willsie brought back.

Glad to see McCormick signed, but I'm scratching my head a little on the Wilsie signing. It seems like he graduated to the NHL already, and there really isn't any room for any more NHL forwards.

Willsie hasn't been sent down to the AHL in three years, so this log jams things at forward, and I hope it doesn't cost a guy like Jones a spot in the lineup.

If Sakic and Svatos are brought back, that leaves the remaining four forward roster spots (including two open spots in the lineup) for Jones, Hensick, McLeod, McCormick, Parker, Ledin, and Willsie, along with Stewart and any surprises in camp to battle it out for.

Seems a little unnecessary, but it's kinda like last year where they brought in a few extra NHL capable players, and they ended up needing them with all the injuries. With the grittier lineup this year, they may be expecting just as many injuries.

i cant see any way willsie cracks this lineup...i think LEM were so bad last year that they wanna ice a competive team this time around. Im sure McCormick and/or Parker are down in the AHL aswell to start the season.

Jori 07-15-2008 04:43 PM

If my math is right, the Avs now have 41 NHL contracts (excluding Sakic and Svatos).

Well, if it results in more Tom Waits tour dates in the Denver area, I'm all for it.

Willsie will be a good depth addition, but I can't imagine him being anything more than the 13th forward on this team.

Bender 07-15-2008 05:04 PM

There's gonna be a trade and my guess is, it's going to involve quite a few Avalanche regulars. Unless the Avs are thinking they want to keep Hensick and Jones down in the AHL for another year, that's they only reason I can see to sign Willsie. There is going to be a package of players going to another team for either a #1 D-man or a proven starting goaltender. We now have 15 forwards signed for next season and that's NOT including Sakic or Svatos.

1) Stastny
2) Smyth
3) Hejduk
4) Wolski
5) Tucker
6) Lappy
7) Arnason
8) Hensick
9) Jones
10) Guite
11) Parker
12) McLeod
13) Ledin
14) McCormick
15) Willsie
16) Sakic
17) Svatos
