OT: Sirius XM Merger Approved

So does this mean I'll get the NHL back by October?

who knows....there was so much crap that these guys had to go through....i hope its ready by the beginning of the season.

Forechecker 07-29-2008 01:04 PM

I just want the NFL station on my XM...

HeaveHo94 07-29-2008 02:20 PM

Saw that, about time. Thats why I got Sirius in the 1st place, then XM takes it over, ***.

DutchShamrock 07-29-2008 02:27 PM

When they first announced the merger over a year ago, I think Feb. '07, they said the channels would be available by December... so bank on at least 10 months before the xm channels are available. You'll probably need a new radio that can read both Sirius and XM satellites so that's another hurdle. I believe the plan is to offer subscribers different plans like cable tv does. Something like $7 for 50 channels and then something for each additional channel. We'll see soon enough.

I Am Chariot 07-29-2008 02:27 PM

I really missed it last season.

NHL LIVE and like 5-6 games a night to choose from if your on the road. I have CI at home but when Im on the road the Sirius was awesome.

I held out for this merger. I heard you will need a new radio but can now choose like 50 channels from either service.

I just NEED it by October

Mel Karmazin, the CEO of Sirius, is going to be on Howard Stern tomorrow so im sure alot of stuff will be answered tomorrow on the show.

The NHL and Howard Stern. Life cannot get better.

Melrose_Jr. 07-29-2008 06:40 PM

I could not live without satellite radio and cannot wait to see how much more amazing it will be with the best of both worlds.

Has there been any early info on pre-installed vehicle setups? I don't have the ability to get a new radio because it's integrated into my dash. Wonder how they plan to deal with that.

Amen brother. This was the reason I had held off to get Satellite Radio. This merger has been talked about for a long, long time..glad to see it come to fruition.

I have heard that you will not need new equipment. Getting ready for the Howard Stern west coast feed to start though. Mel Karmazin on today to answer ALL questions.

You won't need to do anything. All the XM and Sirius radios will be able to receive Sirius XM channels. And if you don't want any channels from the opposite company, you don't have to and you can keep whatever you got right now.

Forechecker 07-30-2008 02:21 PM

No Mel updates?

the interview was more about how the merger happened but one thing they talked about was that you can keep the plan that you have whether XM or Sirius right now but hopefully by September or October that you will be able to get other channels...just in time for hockey season. :handclap:

Forechecker 07-30-2008 02:30 PM

Kewl! I need the NFL on my radio! I want my Bob Pappa!

Yeah, he didn't give any programming specific updates, which is reasonable being that the merger was only approved a couple of days ago. It seemed like the initial feeling is that everyone will be able to keep their existing service, and then pay an additional fee ($4 or so) to add certain channels from the other service. In the end, it sounds like they're going for a cable TV type package, where you pay $12.95 for basic service and then add-on premium channels for additional cash.

I'm personally bummed out about this, because I thought the whole point of the merger was to streamline operations and attract more customers. They should just combine both services and eliminate any redundant channels and give everybody everything for the same price. This would still save the new company money (fewer overall channels), and would definitely attract new customers. This won't happen though.
