That looks like it is going to be a cool place to play.

Starsfan24 12-04-2008 09:14 PM

Haha it was nice before they decided to renovate it

Is it going to have an additional ice sheet attached?
Has there been any other new ice rinks in the greater Dallas area?

Starsfan24 12-10-2008 07:05 PM

They have another sheet in the building. That's where the Dallas Stars practice.

What ever happened to the Texas Attack program?

FrancoRussianAlaskan 12-11-2008 10:29 PM

http://www.alliancehockey.org/

"The Texas Attack, Alliance Bulldogs and Dallas IceJets Youth Hockey Associations are pleased to announce the completion of its merger. The three former clubs will now form one AAA hockey association recognized as the Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club. All three organizations will begin a partnership together with the Alliance and IceJets becoming the official AA programs respectively and play under the flagship of the Dallas Stars AAA Hockey Club."

As the Tornado return to the ice this fall this is a picture of a nearly complete Deja Blue Arena.

I took half of those shots. Theres another row that needs to be installed around almost the entire top of the bowl, as well as installing every seat on the collapsable seating. The day we were there they had just gotten the video boards delivered and were in the process of putting down the carpet in the new restaurant area that's taken over the viewpoint. They have a lot of dusting to do. There will no longer be a center hanging jumbotron, they will instead have the videoboards hanging on the ends of the arena.

It still looks very different from what it was. About how close are they to completing the arena??

The project manager said they will be open for Frisco graduation on June 5th, but I don't believe it will be hockey ready until late june/early july.

*EDIT* I'll add this in, Mr. Project Manager said they were ahead of schedule.

Here are 2 panoramas that I built. The top one has some alignment issues on the right and the bottom.

The name change seems official, and I don't know when the boards are going up, but it wouldn't surprise me if they already hung them just to get them out of the way.

It pissed me off to see the fights on the 11th, I wanted to shoot that event and the next damn day I see tryouts starting on the same day on the other side of the country.

Starsfan24 05-05-2009 09:58 PM

Looks like we will be catching that event.

ALMOST DONE!!!
The renovated and newly renamed Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco is almost ready. I got a sneak peek this morning.

The arena is home to the Texas Tornado Junior "A" level hockey team. It's also where the Dallas Stars is headquartered and the team holds practices.

The arena closed down last June, and the Tornadoes took a break for a year so the facility could be renovated for larger events. The $40 million upgrade is a project shared among the city of Frisco, Frisco ISD and the Dallas Stars.

"When we built this originally, we were in the hockey business," says Randy Locey, execuitive vice president of business operations for the Dallas Stars. "We had a 3,500-seat venue for the Texas Tornadoes, and that's all we thought we would ever be."

But people kept approaching the team about using the arena for other events. Locey said the facility was limited in what it could accommodate.

So when the city and the school district started talking about building a new venue to hold high school graduations, the Dallas Stars stepped in and offered to renovate their arena instead.

The upgrade allows 5,500 seats for hockey games, 6,000 to 6,500 for staged events and a center stage event that can fit about 7,000.

In addition, the arena has three giant video screens (the resolution's better than those at the American Airlines Center though the AAC will be upgrading its screens soon), improved acoustics, a new concessions area, a full commisary to serve the arena's VIP club and 12 luxury suites. The arena also added 80,000 pounds of rigging to the arena to support most any kind of event that might be held there.

The expansion also included a 1,000-space parking garage for all those extra people coming for events.

Construction is expected to be done by next Friday. Then there's plans to do lots of tests on everything from the kitchen and bar areas to the video screens and seating configurations before the first event June 5.

First and foremost, the arena will allow Frisco ISD to hold its graduations in Frisco. But the arena will also compete directly for business with the area's other venues, including Nokia Theater in Grand Prairie and Superpages.com Center in Dallas' Fair Park.

Locey said he believes the venue will tap into a key demographic, drawing people from Frisco, Plano and even North Dallas. And its location right off the Dallas North Tollway allows for easy access.

Bookings for the arena are already filling up fast - with Bill Cosby, the Harlem Globetrotters, martial arts and boxing among the offerings in June. Click here for a complete schedule and ticket information.

Was back at the arena today to pick season tickets and got a tour of the inner guts of the building. A month into the season they are going to be realizing they have some serious storage issues from overall bad planning. Tomorrow is the last official day of construction. The 3 video boards are up and they are about to begin installing the seats in 111-115. Most of the boards have been put in except for the zamboni end. It looks like they are just going to be finishing things up and cleaning up until they get through their series of graduations. I don't know if they are going to be putting in ice before this first round of events or after.

Just went in today to pick up our season tickets. Got a tour of it, and i gotta say those video boards look awesome! They weren't on but i guess they are supposed to be better than the Stars video boards. May be right about the storage, but i think they will be okay. They are basically done with it. Setting up most of the chairs for graduation this weekend. Should be fun, can't wait.

Starsfan24 06-12-2009 01:18 PM

Went to the MMA fights last night. Those boards are awesome!!! The arena looks really nice. The concessions did an okay job. It was the first event so they will get better obviously. Nice job.
