Interesting...

Neil Smith was hammered for the signing of old guys by like Skrudland and Keane. But let's see something.

Rangers sign Skrudland and Keane.
Trade them for Harvey.
Harvey traded for Dvorak.
Dvorak traded for Carter.

Carter traded for Jagr.

And all those years later, the signing of S&K worked out beautifully.

Just a thought I just had that I thought was interesting.

Wish we could have just trade Skrudland and Keane for Jagr in that same year instead of waiting all those years.

Smith was killed for those signing because he had just let Messier walk and didn't get Sakic.

And then he decided that the Rangers would just become a defense-first team without having the players to play that kind of game.

He was right to let Messier walk and the franchise would have been better off if Messier never came back. He also did his best to get Sakic, a great attempt that didn't pan out.
