Dude! What are You doing in That uniform?

Certain uniforms become an integral part of certain players in my head.

It's hard to picture them with other teams they began or ended their NHL careers with.

It's always a jolt to see a picture of Phil Esposito as a BlackHawk(pre-Bruins) or even as a Ranger (post-Bruins)

How strange to see Bobby Orr as a BlackHawk or Mark Messier as a Canuck.

To the people on this board:

1)Do other players come to mind in this respect?

2)Is there one such situation that takes the cake?

thanks

Oh yes plenty of ungodly times when a player should have never wore anything else.

Bobby Hull as a Hartford Whaler in '79-80, his last NHL season

Lafleur as a Ranger is still startling, especially since when he came back it was 1988 and he was almost always the only helmetless guy on the ice

Tim Horton as a Sabre is weird

And very saddening, is seeing either Bernie Parent, or a rare glimpse of Gerry Cheevers in a Leaf uniform........what could have been

Some of the 1970s Montreal dynasty players finished their careers in really odd locations. Anyone have a photo of Serge Savard as a Winnipeg Jet, or Guy Lapointe as a Boston Bruin, or Steve Shutt as an LA King?

Gretzky as a St. Louis Blue gets weirder and weirder as time passes.

Even Robinson as a King is a little bizarre. I remember an OT playoff goal in '91 where I think it was MacTavish scoring it and Robinson is in the crease under a pile of Oilers celebrating. It was just weird to see Big Bird like that, it was so..........un-Robinson I guess

Tony Esposito started with Montreal.

Johnny Bucyk started with Detroit.

Bernie Parent started with Boston.

Jacques Plante ended with Boston.

I've got a video clip of Steve Yzerman scoring a goal in a Team Russia sweater.

mrhockey193195 08-12-2008 07:42 PM

Gretzky as a Blue takes the cake for me.

Others not mentioned are Lafleur as a Nordique (Lafleur as a Ranger was weird as well), Leetch as a Maple Leaf/Bruin, Bourque as an Avalanche, Francis as a Maple Leaf, Trottier as a Penguin

MiamiScreamingEagles 08-12-2008 07:57 PM

Dickie Moore and Doug Harvey with St. Louis, played when Scotty Bowman coached there.

checkerdome 08-12-2008 08:09 PM

I neglected to mention Terry Sawchuk in a Kings uniform in my OP.

That always jumps out at me.

Re: post #13 by Mr. Bundy-

I recognize Phil Housley and Doug Wilson. Is that Patrick Lalime in the first picture from the top with Rick Walmsley as a Leaf? This last one really puzzles me.

Yes, that is Lalime, but the other one's not Walmsley.

He was the goalie Toronto got in the Andreychuk trade in 1993.

Mad Habber 08-12-2008 09:51 PM

Chris Nilan as a Bruins.

As a Ranger, fine. Doesn't look right, but I can live with that. But as a Bruins, that's sacriligeous after all the wars and the crap between the two.

Guy Lafleur as a Nordique. He was the first name in a dynasty and after the wars between those two teams.

Any other player that was an important part of a dynasty like mentioned above, guys like Savard, Lapointe, Robinson, Shutt in other uniforms. Clark Gillies comes to mind.

Bernie Federko is another that comes to mind.

Jeez, I had forgotten that Daren Puppa had even played for Toronto.

thanks:)

Also, I often forget how much Coffey bounced around in his last 5 seasons.
