Carbo: Brisebois will likely be back

Carbo was invited at "Bons Baisers de France" yesterday and said Brisebois will likely be back...

Anyone heard it too? Comments...

Be back?
As a player?
Coach?
Towel boy?
Ski coach?

David_99 08-29-2008 08:31 AM

Natey should be happy

My sentiments exactly. I wouldn't mind him as a seventh d-man, but I thought that was supposed to be his role last year, as well?

Haddock 08-29-2008 08:33 AM

It was in the papers when they covered his golf tournament.

Real hockey fans don't take their news from Bons baisers de France :shakehead :D

Good 7th, sometimes even 8th d-man. Cheap. Good in the room. Good with the community. Good with the media. Can't and shouldn't play like this year when the team's in the playoffs.

CH4 08-29-2008 08:34 AM

As I stated in the previous thread about this subject; I really don't minf having him around for another year, veteran presence on defence, that does not mind being in the stands most of the time, and has a great attitude since he came back...

Leadership is important, we have a very young team

Canadian_Brewtality 08-29-2008 08:34 AM

he is the oldest player. Carbo's "real" link to the players in the lockeroom. He is keeping him around for this.

I hope he is an 8th d-man, but i understand why this is being done. Would rather seen Valentenko or Carle, but they would not flourish being 7th D

Capitano 08-29-2008 08:34 AM

I have no problem with him playing 30-40 games like he did last year. He wasn't horrible all the time - and even scored a big goal against Boston in the playoffs.

Mue 08-29-2008 08:34 AM

As a 7th it makes perfect sense.

The only way he would take O'Byrne's spot, is if O'Byrne gives him the spot, with below par play or such. Brisebois would only be signed as a 7th dman, and would play if there were injuries or players playing poorly.

I don't mind bringing Brisebois back as a depth guy. As long as he isn't playing 4-5 games in a row, he doesn't play bad.

Good coach don't say this kind of comments if it's not true...

Even if Carbo would say it on the next episode of ''Bleu nuit'', it did came from the coach's mouth....

it still sucks i wanted to see players like Valentneko, Weber and Carle getting call-ups this year, guess not

What do you mean? Why would he lie about discussions he had about and to Brisebois?

I'm far from being a Breezer fan, but if he's mostly a 7th D-man, comes cheaply, and can be an inexpensive option if their having troubles on the PP, then I'm fine with it.

In all honesty, Carle and Valentenko aren't ready yet - they need at least another half season in the AHL. Hamilton's play-by-play guy said that on Team 990 after the season and he's seen every game they've ever played in the AHL. Also, as you say, it wouldn't do them any good to come here and sit - they need to play 20 minutes a game.

The problem is he would be our 2nd D-man for the PP... Then, he could play more games we expect...

My point is that this was already reported in the sport section of a major newspaper days before he said it on un show de variétés pour matantes à Radio-Canada.

It's all good though. I was watching Obama. To each his own.

Roulin 08-29-2008 08:45 AM

Carbo's phrasing makes me wonder, what if Brisebois is invited to camp as a tryout? Would give Belle and Henry the chance to compete, at least.

Ross MacLochness 08-29-2008 08:45 AM

Is it really that hard to find a 7th defenceman that will play sparingly and is NOT scared of his own shadow?

What if we acquire Schnieder and sign Brisebois. It'll be '93 all over again.

edit: too bad Desjardins is retired :P

Blades 0f Steel 08-29-2008 08:57 AM

Not sure why this is such a surprise to everyone. We've all known the Habs need a RD that can play the PP.
