Shootout Shooters

I don't think this has been discussed recently so who are the habs top 5 in the shootout this year?

Mine would be in order:

A. Kostitsyn
Kovalev
Tanguay
Koivu
S. Kostitsyn

We have a lot of great potential shooters especially considering Higgins, Pleks and Markov are not in the list.

Stewart JH Esq MBE 08-31-2008 10:10 AM

Kovalev
Koivu
Plekanec
A.Kostitsyn
Tanguay

VanNistelrooy 08-31-2008 10:12 AM

I would like Carbo to try Markov a bit more. If he could be half the player Zubov is in shootout I would be happy with it.

kostitsyn1489 08-31-2008 10:18 AM

I think for the first three I'd go with AKostitsyn Koivu and Kovalev. They are our best by a good margin I think. Then go with who has a good game between Plek SK Higgins and Tanguay.

7th Player 08-31-2008 10:23 AM

Koivu
Kovalev
(SundiN)
Tanguay
AK
HIggins
SK
TKO :)

A. Kostitsyn
Koivu
Kovalev
Tanguay
S. Kostitsyn

mcphee 08-31-2008 10:52 AM

I think it's koivu,Kovalev and a hunch. Whoever has been successful in practice shootout competitions gets the chance to try it in games until he proves he can't handle it.

WeThreeKings 08-31-2008 10:52 AM

A. Kostitsyn
Koivu
Kovalev
Tanguay
S. Kostitsyn

terreur 08-31-2008 11:05 AM

Ak27
Ak46
Tanguay
Koivu
Skost

anarmandaleb 08-31-2008 11:49 AM

I'd always start with Kovalev,
AKost
Tanguay
Koivu
Markov(he should get a shot at least, as a previous poster said)
SKost
Plekanec
Higgins ()

Kovy
AK
SK
Koivu

I don't understand why some people are putting Koivu 4th.. he's our best shootout shooter, without a question.

For me, I go Koivu.. and then the two players who have had the best game.

Myron Gaines* 08-31-2008 12:12 PM

Kovy, Tanguay, A. Kost , Koivu, S.kost (last year vs lundqvist was awesome)

Not mentionning Kovalev is almost a disgrace. :help:

JMMR 08-31-2008 12:56 PM

Markov would be in my top 5.

His 14% last year was a disgrace as well.

Kovalev is a great player, but he has not been good in shootouts.

Kovalev had a 14% last year and a 30% success rate since shootouts have been in the NHL. Koivu had a 45% last year and a 50% success rate since the shootout has been in the NHL.

I really believe one of the three shooters has to be the player who played the best that game. When you are hot, you are hot, chances are it will stick in the shootout too. Some nights you can pick corners and bury almost all your chances, other nights are different.

I would also put Markov in the top 5. He has a sweet backhand 5-hole move. He scored against Pittsburgh with it and I believe was stopped by Lundqvist in the 6-5 comeback game. But Lundqvist is one of the best shootout goalies in the league, so take his miss with a grain of salt.

Le Tricolore 08-31-2008 01:07 PM

1. AKost
2. Kovalev
3. Koivu

4. Skost
5. Tanguay

That's why we need him at 4th. If the Habs are down one, he ties it up. If the Habs are up, this is where he wins the game or provides insurance. The fourth spot is the most important, IMO. That's why I put him there in any case.

Or you could put him in the top 3 to ensure he shoots.

mcphee 08-31-2008 01:26 PM

I understand the reluctance to put Koivu at the top. He has virtually no shot, can mishandle the puck, but he tends to score with the game on the line. I don't always know how, but it goes in. Both Kost's shoot better have sleeker moves, but until Koivu isn't a consistent scorer, there's no way he doesn't shoot.

Kovalev had an off year in the shootout, but I believe that he stays in until he's missed quite a few in a row.

Ross MacLochness 08-31-2008 01:40 PM

Koivu is obviously number 1 for me, doesn't mean he has to go first, but he's gotta be in the top 3.

After that, probably Andrei Kostitsyn, followed by Kovalev or Tanguay (lets see how he does)

Le Tricolore 08-31-2008 01:42 PM

How has Tanguay done in the shootout since it's been implemented?

That's what I was wondering, and since you're younger and should know how to find these things..................
