If Walz is avaliable...

What would you give for the guy? Please add in various players...and/or prospects.

(Note: I don't think the Wild and the Canucks are going to make great trading partners)

MoS* 02-23-2004 05:50 PM

how about

TO OTTAWA:
Wes Walz

TO MINNESOTA:
Vermette and Pothier

thestonedkoala 02-23-2004 05:53 PM

Done! That works for best teams. Minnesota gets two young players back, Ottawa gets a shut down center for the playoffs...I guess. Expand on this? Think Wanvig would fit well with Ottawa.

ottawa needs a defensive center like walz imo. they have offensive centers who are talented offensievly and a few rugged wingers but no designated defensive specialist or a pk star.

imo with walz

ottawa =

Bondra - Bonk - Alfreddson
Smolinski - Spezza - Hossa
Schaefer - White - Havlat
Fisher - Walz - Varada

Redden - Chara
Phillips - Volchenkov
etc.....

thestonedkoala 02-23-2004 05:55 PM

That looks actually...scary LOL...

Maybe Walz + Wanvig (PF) + Roche (TRYING TO GET RID OF THIS GUY! He's a pure PPQB) for something...

yeah i think we would also be getting a nice reclamation project in pothier who has potential to be a #3-4 d-man too

monster_bertuzzi 02-23-2004 06:03 PM

I just want Walz, not Roche and Wanvig ;).

Van: Walz
Min: Umberger, 2005 2nd, 2004 3rd

thestonedkoala 02-23-2004 06:04 PM

Maybe, but the thing is like I said, Vancouver and Minnesota probably won't trade.

The Wild need a guy like Pothier.

I suppose that kills any chance of getting BOmbadir, eh? :(

That's a pretty hefty price to pay (at least IMO), but I think we would have to overpay to get Walz as he's in our division and plays for a rival. I'd be for getting him, of course assuming his salary isn't that much (which it probably isn't as he plays for the Wild).

But would the Wild want Umberger? It seems to me that they are a team that avoids guys with big egos for their team, and Umberger strikes me as that type. I'm not convinced they'd be all that interested. Maybe they'd prefer a guy like Reid, but perhaps I'm wrong. Pure speculation on my part.

TSK is probably right though, I can't see the Canucks and Wild getting together to wheel and deal.

It ain't gonna happen though.

thestonedkoala 02-23-2004 06:13 PM

Yep sorry ECH! No Bomber for you! Bomber will most likely be packaged with Fernandez to Toronto if they move or if not a team out East.

Other thing with Um, Riser will take a hard line to him like Burke.

Far too much from Ottawa. Walz is not a second Bondra.

thestonedkoala 02-23-2004 06:22 PM

No but he's a solid fourth line center :D HEY NOW! We were offered a 1st last year for him LOL

Agreed, I don't see Vancouver willing to give Minnesota any decent young players, the likely asking price for Walz. Bombardir for a 4th/5th round pick on the other hand...

Swervedriver 02-23-2004 10:13 PM

Wild get:

Huml, Jonsson, Samuelsson

Bruins get:

Walz, Brunette, Wanvig

Thoughts?

B's give up a lot of their future there. I don't think they'd do it, but it would be a great deal for Minny.

Sometimes you gotta give to receive right?

thestonedkoala 02-23-2004 10:31 PM

Very hard to swallow. I love Brunette, he's probably one of the better guys from behind the net and Wanvig would be hard to lose but that said I would do it. I know the other Wild fans wouldn't but it gives us some prospects.

Very true, but they are definitely overpaying for several reasons...

Brunette doesn't have that high of trade value, IMO. He is a decent scorer, but I doubt he'd get that much in a trade.

Walz is a pending UFA, I believe, and it's likely that the B's, being the frugal team that they are, would not resign him. Sure he'd be an excellent addition, but I'm not sure that they'd keep him for long.

Wanvig was once a Bruin prospect, but went back into the draft. I don't know whether there is bad blood between him and Bruins management, but it could be possible that there is.

I suspect that with the new CBA, a lot of young talent like Huml, Jonsson and Samuelsson will possibly get to play in the NHL as teams try to cut costs by adding younger players. Just speculation, but if there is a salary cap, a lot of the more expensive players could definitely be replaced by younger, cheaper talent.

thestonedkoala 02-23-2004 10:33 PM

Brunette isn't a scorer though, he's a set-up type of player.

Walz might take what? 1.5 million?

Yeah, but it's the BRUINS, for pete's sake.

Both your points are worth considering, though. Brunette is indeed more of a set-up type guy, but does it really matter? His value isn't that high no matter what style he plays. And Walz probably wouldn't demand a ton of money, but who really knows? He's a pretty good shutdown center, so he might get a nice offer that the B's don't match.

The Sens designated defensive and PK specialist just returned from injury.

Swervedriver 02-23-2004 10:43 PM

Key loss for the Bruins in my trade proposal is Samuelsson. He's having a rough sophomore season in Providence but has a lot of potential. His skating is world class and his style of play would really suit the Wild. Huml has run out of chances with Boston and needs a change of scenery to jump start his career. Getting a second chance at NHL life in Minnesota would be good for him. Jonsson would be a potential HUGE loss to swallow from a Bruins standpoint. HOWEVER, with rookies getting slapped on the last CBA negotiation I could see the Bruins moving him for a chance to win now so they wouldn’t have to deal with signing him this offseason. It’s crystal clear he’s ready to jump to North America.
