Petr Prucha or Korpedo??

Contract aside (not like it's a huge factor..but still)

Who would you rather see in the opening day lineup if it came down to 1 or the other?

For me it's hands down Korpedo...he's everything that Prucha is; and everything that Prucha isn't.

This kid is gonna be a star....and I want it to shine this year. I understand the opponents' arguments that he needs more seasoning...but I think he could and possibly should open the year in Prague.

Although I do like Prucha in shootouts.....when nobody can knock him into next week!

dkich96 09-19-2008 09:16 PM

used to love Pru but have a very good feeling about Korps.

HockeyBasedNYC 09-19-2008 09:41 PM

I believe both will be in the starting lineup.

If i had to choose, Prucha, because of the experience factor. But its very close.

This poll isnt as cut and dry though. Tough to compare IMO.

mti79 09-19-2008 09:55 PM

Prucha, he's proven he can play at this level plus he'll probably wind up on one of the top 2 lines. I can't see Korps playing that high this year. If you keep Korps and not Prucha, there is a bigger void in the top 6 then if you have Prucha on the roster.

Burlington Bomb 26 09-19-2008 10:08 PM

Prucha. He's scored 30 and 22 goals in a season. Korpedo has 1 career NHL goal. Prucha is proven, and is better.

Vatchern 09-19-2008 10:12 PM

Prucha. Korpedo needs more ice time at a lower level imo, instead of less ice time at the nhl level.

ThirdEye 09-19-2008 10:16 PM

Prucha will be on the team. Korpedo will probably be a call up sometime down the line when there is an injury or if Prucha disappoints like last year

I really want to see Korpikoski, but I think he should stay in the AHL until he can produce on a point-per-game level there, which is entirely realistic for him.

Radek27 09-19-2008 10:24 PM

Gotta stick with the only goal scorer the teams has.

Nekz 09-19-2008 10:55 PM

Anyone else HATE the nickname "Korpedo"?

nope :)

If he's gonna be used right, Prucha. If not, might as well trade him and let Korpedo play.

One of the few original nicknames in sports these years...

I'd like to see Prucha get 1 more legit shot (as in more than 5 games getting more than 8 minutes of ice time) with the open offense we have this year.

Edge 09-19-2008 11:28 PM

Hard to say.

Two very different players.

I think you've got to give Prucha one last (legit) chance to stick as a top 6 scoring winger.

But at this point they really should not be battling for the same spot.

If they are, then it is time to move Prucha because we are simply never going to use him the proper way.

Prucha, I hope is given a fair shot this season. He wasn't last year because his playing time basically dropped off the charts because of Shanny.

I'm a HUGE Shanny fan, and I know I'll get reprimanded for this but if Pru had the same playing time, the same PP minutes as Shanny last year - Pru finishes with more goals. Take it to the bank.

Jxmarts 09-20-2008 01:01 AM

It's hard to project Korpikoski, or any AHL player, as a scorer at the NHL level if they haven't scored nearly at a point per game in the minors, at least for a stretch. It just doesn't happen. If Korpikoski makes the big club this year, it will be on the third line, at least until he demonstrates he can consistently beat NHL goalies.

FLYLine24 09-20-2008 01:03 AM

Very tired of Prucha.

He was AWESOME his first year, he was creating chances, making great moves..but after the knee injury vs Philly..everything disappeared. All his goals after that pretty much came from back door plays from Jagr.

Prucha was a one hit wonder...I'd rather see what Korpi can do then see what Prucha can't do.

Don't hate it but am not terribly fond of it. I always liked "Korpi" better. I hope he can make it on the roster. Much like Dubinsky was last season, Korpikoski is ready this season. There just is a logjam so unless they clear out some roster space, he's gonna get the Nigel Dawes treatment.

By my count, we'd have to lose two players to make room. Betts and Sjostrom?

possible depth chart/lines...
Naslund-Gomez-Zherdev
Dawes-Drury-Prucha
Korpikoski-Dubinsky-Callahan
Voros-Fritsche-Rissmiller
Orr

Inferno 09-20-2008 02:28 AM

If i have to pick one or the other, id pick korpedo, but its not really a fair poll. id rather choose korpedo over Sjostrom for example instead. or Voros, or Rissmiller.
those would be my first choices on who to get rid of, even betts before prucha. because i think prucha can be effective on the top 3 lines, but not the 4th line, and i think korpedo can be VERY effective on a 4th line, as well as anywhere else in the lineup.

Pretty much how I feel. Korpi may not ever be a 30 goal scorer, but, he brings more to the table than Prucha. Plus, that $1.6 million in cap space would be nice to have.

NYR Viper 09-20-2008 08:26 AM

if there was a solid spot open for korpikoski i would say korpi but i have a feeling that if he were to make the team he would be bounced around from the 4th to the 3rd....mostly onthe 4th which wouldnt help anything......plus if prucha doesnt get one last shot then everyone on here will keep saying he shouldve gotten one...let the kid either prove himself or move on......

beastly115 09-20-2008 08:46 AM

I'd like to see Prucha to start the season. Give him 20 or so games with premium ice time and PP time. See if he can get back to form. If not, replace him with Korpedo.

That would only clear up about 600,000.

i agree with this as well....i feel like the rangers will dealsome of their depth anyways.....if rissmiller or sjostrom or betts dont make the team i would think sather would trade them and get somethign for them instead of sending them to the AHL as they are all too old and veterans in the NHL

i dunno, i think there's something to be said for working oneself up. that's basically what datsyuk did in detroit, he started on the lower lines then clawed his way to the top with exceptional play.

TheHotRock 09-20-2008 10:43 AM

if its one or the other on the second line, gimme a look at prucha for at least 20 games.

if its one or the other on the third line, gimme korpikoski and cut/waive/demote prucha.

i think we'll be seeing them both on the ice in prague though....especially if renney is serious about rolling 4 lines that can chip in offense
