Young goaltender, good for ECHL...

good acquisition...

born in 1989, which means he is 19, will turn 20 on oct.9

Read: Desjardins is not going back to Cincinatti.

That Mayer guy will probably end up Backup to Lacasse.

Bullsmith 09-25-2008 11:41 AM

Always nice to see a training camp tryout land a contract. I'm happy for Mayer, and since I have no faith in Lacasse, I'm happy for Cincy too.

So you think he'l make the jump this year?

SakuKovalev 09-25-2008 11:43 AM

Wouldn't it be ALOT more logic if he went back to St-John this year? I think that' the plan? he's on their roster on the website..

He played 2 games for them to start the year. 1-1 record

Whitesnake 09-25-2008 11:47 AM

Good job Mayer! I knew he would be good, always thought we should've drafted him.....(waiting for my friend to intervene here.....)

Seriously, this is a heck of an accomplishment from tryout to a signed contract, good job indeed. Didn't want to spend a draft pick, but I really liked to see him having a tryout and it worked out.

He's still at a Juniors age, he will go back with his junior team.

I do expect that since it's Lacasse last contract year (if it really is...), it's just a way to add 1 guy since we might be losing another one. Still, at the same age, Mayer looks much better than Lacasse to say the least. Needs to work on these bad goals he gives but it goes with experience.

Yes I would think that's the plan. To me it makes a lot more sense to have him back with the sea dogs and team swiss for the wjc's.

I tried watching him for those games but there was a problem with the webcast so I missed seeing him in action this year.

In the games I saw last year, he didn't impress me and I heard he had a rough showing at the wjc's. I was surprised cause going into the season I heard a lot of hype about him. Either way he's got to be an upgrade on Lacasse as you say, so it's a good move imo.

Congrats to him and good luck. Plus it gives us another prospect to follow in the Q this year as we just doubled our number of Q prospects. :sarcasm:

Watsatheo 09-25-2008 11:59 AM

Doesn't he have draft eligibility?

I didn't want us to draft him for the exact same reasons. Never was impressed by any of the games I saw him played. Saw some moves of brillance but then let those really bad goals per game it made me decide to not want him with our picks. But as a tryout since he was supposed to be good, it was a great bet and it paid off. Will be fun to follow Saint-John actually with him, Anthony and Després on the team but will hate when Didomenico has a good performance though....;)

beowulf 09-25-2008 12:25 PM

Interesting signing, as mentioned someone else to follow in the Q and likely at the WJC (he is still eligible right?).

Louis Houde 09-25-2008 12:27 PM

Good gamble, for the price

Surely WeThreeKings is really really busy, 'cause we would've heard from him already....;)

Just got home from university.

MRocketR 09-25-2008 12:40 PM

Here is a clip of him after a shootout loss to finland in the world juniors.
He was speaking Czech since that's where the tournament was hosted.

Not too strong with maths, hey guys?

Mayer was born 1989-10-09, which means he's currently 18 years old and will turn 19 next month.
So yes, he can play in the WJC this year.

I never wanted Poulin either. But I didn't want Mayer, that's for sure. Anyway, you've liked him and stuck by him. We make enough predictions and analysis that it's fun to be told when we're wrong, but funnier to know when we're right. So here's to you. :thumbu:
