Bye bye Darby! Hendrickson sent to Avs

Hendrickson was sent to the Avs with an 8th for a 4th round pick.

Any time you can move up in the draft is a good idea. Especially seeing how Darby wasn't going to play anymore. Very good move.

By the way, the 4th going to the Wild is in 2005 and the 8th going to Colorado is in 2004.

Hecht 02-25-2004 01:41 PM

I've never been so happy  ;)

Surly Furious 02-25-2004 01:59 PM

Wow! That's a terrific deal. Keep 'em coming DR. :yo:

Wild Bill 02-25-2004 02:04 PM

Great deal...getting sumthin' for nuthin'...

EDIT: I will learn to read, I will learn to read, I will...

ceber 02-25-2004 02:42 PM

We were missing a 4th this year, weren't we? Oh wait.. it was a 5th. We gave up a 5th for E. Chouinard. So we've got two 4th's and no 5th, right? (And no 8th...)

Good move for the Wild and Darby, I'd think. I don't think we would've kept him next season. Now he's at least got a chance in someone's system.

Doh. That's a 2005 4th rounder. Never mind most of my post, I guess.

So, we've got all our picks but the 5th and the 8th this year... (so far)?

Think the 4th was for next year(05), never-the-less GREAT deal!

Why do you guys suppose the Av's did this? Depth? Faceoffs? They are blind?

I think any one of those three answers will do at this point. I have questioned some of their moves in the past... Vrbata for Battaglia was one.

thestonedkoala 02-25-2004 02:59 PM

Defensive-forward, faceoff specialist...

We kind of overpaid ourselves LOL ;)

Nedorost and Messier for Peter Worrell.....jury is still out on Skoula for Sauer. Must be a chemistry thing as much as a hockey thing.

Yeah those were the one's I was trying to remember. They got a 2nd with Worrell though, but still, I'm not sure about Nedorost having to go. And Skoula, that one I'm not sure about either. If I had to choose, I'd take Skoula over Sauer any day. Ah well, you win some you lose some. They have made a lot of great trades in the past too.

It's gotta be a 4th line depth move, no?

One of the things Lemaire always said about Darby was that he (Lemaire) could throw him (Darby) out on the ice in any situation and not worry about him screwing it all up. That's kind of a valuable thing, for a depth guy. Doesn't really bring anything amazing, but doesn't leave you with a huge problem somewhere, either.

'Course, maybe Lemaire was just being nice.

GaborikRules10!!! 02-25-2004 03:23 PM

Great Move Riesbrough :handclap:

NyCoN 02-25-2004 03:23 PM

Great move DR! It's about time! :D

By the way STK... I said in many posts, that we should trade Darby and Marshall, and everytime I said it you would rip the post and say they were worthless and not worth anything. Looks like Darby was worth something after all! :p ;)

thestonedkoala 02-25-2004 03:29 PM

A 5th rounder?

You do realize a lot of our prospects come out of the 8th round?

Bolduc, Hannula, Sekeras, Hendrickson all came in the later rounds...

That and PL always overpays...

Hecht 02-25-2004 03:53 PM

we should trade Marshall to the canucks..it certainly would make practices more interesting..

You must have been reading too much about internet viruses to mention such a Trojan Horse suggestion.

Darby was picked up in the waiver draft from the Canucks if I remember correctly.

You should have watched more Avs games! :p

Skoula's defense wasn't good, and it was causing problems. He doesn't have his head on straight, and after many years of expecting him to correct that, he still doesn't have very good hockey sense. At least Sauer is a stay-at-home type, he'll help the Avs where they need it, on D. They had enough PP QB's, and enough Skoula-induced heart attacks.

Now with Darby -- has his game diminished that much? I always found him fun to watch and a good energy guy. He should fit in and help out, especially right now with Hinote and Nikolishin injured for who knows how long. My guess was that they wanted to give younger guys a chance since this year isn't turning about to be a playoff year for the Wild, and because the Wild already have a lot of defensively responsible guys with decent wheels. I appreciate any insight.

Finally, I got to see the Avs-Wild game on Sunday, and just wanted to say how much I love Excel and the energy in the building - you guys rock. Wasn't the most electric crowd I've seen there for that game, but it wasn't exactly an exciting game.

The word diminished doesn't apply to Darby's game, mmmkay?

Granted, I haven't seen a lot of Avs games but as far as potential is concerned I think Skoula's got a lot of room to grow. Sauer impressed me last year, I just wasn't aware they were equals in the trade department (excluding the midrange pick).

OK, now that the class clown has replied, anyone else see a difference between the Darby of the inaugural Wild campaign and the one of the past few years?

He does have a ton of potential, and he is still young, but it was time to move on. He may never "get it" on D, that's a chance the Avs had to take. Sauer is more what they needed, of similar age, and a guy they drafted, so they've probably liked him all along. I actually think Sauer's trade value was higher than Skoula's before the season. This year they have both struggled, and hopefully they both snap out of it on new teams.

The Ducks now have Skoula and Ozolinsh. They're going to need an aspirin sponsorship deal. :D

aylib 02-25-2004 04:27 PM

Ok, ok. Darby now and Darby from a season or two ago is still pretty much the same player. Maybe one with more experience. He used to play on both the PP and PK, but I don't think he has seen much PP action the last couple of years.
His game is very simple, thats why I said there isn't much to regress. He chases the puck carrier, when lucky strips the puck and dumps it. Hard to notice a difference in such an uncomplicated game. I'd say he stayed at the same level, but was pushed out because of "superior" talent.

Thanks! I have been reading threads in three different areas on this, so I get cranky. I also forget what I've posted where. ;) I posted on the Avs board that because he didn't play at a real high level before, I couldn't imagine he's much different a player now. But I had no proof, and sometimes players turn to total crap in their 30's. I've watched a pretty good amount of Wild games this year, they are my 2nd faves after the Avs, but obviously you couldn't scout Darby too well by watching Wild games this year.

This is unrelated, but this is the place to ask this: have the Wild drafted anybody from Shattuck-St. Mary's? It's my alma mater, and it's transition from wayward home for problem children of the rich to hockey superschool is kind of freaking me out.
