Habs and Komi negotiating (per Pedneault on CKAC)

Pedneault just said on CKAC that the Habs and Komisarek's camp are negotiating right now and the talks are going well...a deal could even be signed within a few days or weeks

He said that just as I tuned in, did he talk about this earlier in his show ? They played Gainey's PC earlier and Gainey didn't even talk of Komisarek's situation so it didn't come from there.

I hope Pedneault's right of course, but I would like some more confirmation/background. He did call the Lang deal like 3 hours before it happened.

Galchenyuk x 27 10-03-2008 04:59 PM

best thing to do would be to sign him now.
with each passing day, he gets more and more expensive.

That's a great great GREAT news! We need to sign him long term, and I think we'll get him at a decent price. Can't wait to know more!

Signing Komi early would put a lot of teams in a frenzy to lock up other defensive blueliners. I personally think Komi is going to get something long term-5 to 6 years, but the overall value will be good for both parties. So yeah, either a 5 year, $27.5M deal or a 6 year, $33M deal. Basically, Roman Hamrlik money.

People want to start taking a guess how much Komi will sign for? Mine...6 year-33 million

SpreeEndaz 10-03-2008 05:13 PM

What if the american economy brings a decrease in the salary cap and the salaries next summer drop down a lot ? Just bringing an hypothesis here.

I'll guess the same money as Markov - 5.75 per.

Whoa...that's way too much for Komisarek. I'm going to hope it's around 4, 4.5 max.

JMMR 10-03-2008 05:19 PM

6-7 years 4.66-4.75

So Streit is better that Komisarek ? Well, we have divergent opinions on that subject I guess.

Bill McNeal 10-03-2008 05:21 PM

Hopefully long-term (at least 5-6 years) in the $5-5.25M range.

Well, actually, hopefully life-time contract for league minimum and all the free meals he can handle from adoring fans but that won't be likely.

The amount of money you make doesn't make you better than someone else, it means thats how important you are to a team or thats how much you chose to be paid.

Iginla makes only $7M and Brodeur only makes $5.2M, but that doesn't mean everyone who makes more than them are better players. It's also about the market and who you were competing against.

redmachine54 10-03-2008 05:26 PM

Those numbers are huge for a guy like Komisarek. Deals like Markov's are discounts for players like Markov; deals like Markov's are overpayments for players like Komisarek.

He doesn't log any power-play time, he doesn't pitch in offensively. In comparison to the numbers and contracts thrown around last season for offensive d-men, Komisarek should be in the ball-park of 4.5-5.0 million -- especially if it's a long-term deal.

I do think Komisarek is a valuable member of the team, but if he's asking for Markov-type money, I'd let him walk; he in no way justified it, and given the only real bad defensive d-man contract that stands out is Commodore's, Komisarek will have a hard time pushing for 5+ million.

Artyukhin* 10-03-2008 05:27 PM

Komisarek is a guy i really hope plays his entire career in montreal and then becomes envolved with the orginazation when he retires,

coach Komisarek;)

Dripper 10-03-2008 05:28 PM

My guess is 6 years, 27M$

Offensive defensemen get all the glory and big contracts. I expect Komi to get a decent increase but not into the top echelon of salaries for defensemen.

Kinda OT...but will Komi be a Norris worthy D-Man someday? Potentially...?

The NHL won't give the Norris to a guy who scores under 50pts and I don't ever see Komi getting 50 pts.

Well that sucks. I mean, I'd like to see this guy being named the best NHL d-man someday.

Would you say Brad Richards is the best player in the NHL after Crosby and Ovechkin? I wouldn't either but according to your method of salary dictating talent, he is.

goalchenyuk 10-03-2008 05:38 PM

good news ! Bob needs to ink Komisarek and Plekanec .
