OT: New jumbotron, when?

Hey guys, I've heard about a new jumbotron a the Bell Centre, does anyone know when we'll get it? For the 100 years anniversary I guess? I want one like this

This is the first that I'm hearing about it. But I agree, that jumbotron is kickass.

DicAnns 09-28-2007 03:33 PM

wow! :amazed:

unfortunately, I wouldn't count on that any time soon! :(

Sports1131 09-28-2007 03:40 PM

I'd be shocked if we don't have a new scoreboard for opening day next year (for the centennial), if not earlier. The Bell Centre is one of the most-used entertainment facilities in the world and I don't think there's any chance that Gillett will allow it to become obsolete. If Jacobs in Boston is willing to splurge I'm sure our owner will have no problem.

If not, I'll write him a letter. I'm pretty sure the shot clock was added to the jumbotron late last season in response to a letter I wrote. :amazed:

The current scoreboard was financed by a Canadian tobacco company (completely I believe) and then when the "new" anti-tobacco laws kicked in they weren't allowed to advertise on it anymore.

I'm not sure if Gillett would want to pay fully for a new one (they cost a fortune), but he seems a lot more willing to open the purse than Molson was.

Montreal should get a new jumbotron, even though they have a great hockey environment, it brings in corporate dollars with advertising plus it makes the arena feel more updated. Bell Centre is turing 13 years old and for the 100th Anniversary it would be great. I think something something like HP Pavilion (Sharks), Sommet Center (Nashville) or TD BankNorth Garden (Boston Bruins).

Ottawa desperately needs one too. All Canadian stadiums should try to be different from each other in my opinion.

Vancouver is nice too but already done in Canada. Sorry I love scoreboards.

JMMR 03-12-2008 01:37 AM

They will have a new one for next season at the latest that HD stuff is amazing.

dre2112 03-12-2008 02:22 AM

The scoreboard at the Bell Center is one of the worst in the NHL.

LilWinger11 03-12-2008 08:56 AM

The Bruins have an awesome Jumbotron... HD, I think. When I was there last year I couldn't believe how sharp the picture was on replays.

And now, having said something nice about the Bruins, I'm off to take a shower.

Yeah. That's the one I liked the best, too.
Ugh. I feel so dirty.

The Preds board layout is pretty cool.

The Longhorns have one of the biggest I think

They should put up this 4 storey jumbotron for public viewing outside the arena :yo:

The ones in Buffalo, Boston and Philly are nice. They should have a similar one.

In Philly, there's an SMS system which allows the fans to send a text message and they scroll them on the jumbotron. :)

Is that really a good idea for Flyers fans? j/k, I realize there must be somebody censoring them, but still...

LOL, he'd get so annoyed after a while.
Jumbotron message - "For the last time guys, I'm not putting up your message to have Briere go **** himself"

:biglaugh:

I'm sure they censor them. The messages were like: "Hi Mom, I love you!"
Not typical Philly...;)

What surprises me is that I would have thought one needed opposable thumbs to text-message... judging by posts on the main board, there don't seem to be many Flyers fans who have evolved to that point:sarcasm:

I wonder what's the resolution on those things and how much they cost ?

I'm guessing at least 50,000 $ +

Delat 03-12-2008 12:09 PM

I would loike to have a brand new Jumbotron for sure, only if it doesn't come higher prices.

The one at the Wachovia center is nice. But I have to admit I like the classic style jumbotron we have, it may be old, it's still looks fine to me.

coolguy21415 03-12-2008 12:13 PM

lol who cares? It's not like you go to watch the Jumbotron. How about investing in some thinner/stronger netting to impede viewing from the ends a bit less.

+1

If you're really into the 'CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!' signals on the jumbotron, maybe you don't like hockey as much as you think.

LOL! They aren't that bad, you know? ;)

I also went to the Islanders. People there are nice, but they look like Expos fans... Cheering for a medium club, in a mediocre arena :(.

Last november I was at a conference here at Collège Édouard Montpetit. The subject was the marketing of the Montreal Canadiens and, of course, Ray Lallonde, director of marketing for the Habs, was giving the speech.

He talked about the jumbotron of the Caps and said the Habs are going to have one for next season.

I guess it's going to be installed this summer

Awesome! :)

I hope they use the new one better to display information...it's pretty sad that the only time we can see out-of-town scores is during the short RDS thing at the end of the second intermission.

RC51 03-12-2008 12:48 PM

what will the do with the used one they have now?

At least 50,000$? How about at least $200,000 IMO.. That thing is huge!!
