Habs 3rd with SI

So Sports Illustrated has the Habs starting the season in third in their power rankings. Detroit and Dallas are ahead.

What's your opinion?

Habs >>>>>>>> NHL

Myron Gaines* 10-02-2008 10:41 AM

WE BEAT DETROIT TWO TIMES IN THE PRESEASON SO WE WOULD'VE DONE THE SAME AGAINST DALLAS. WE SHOULD BE NUMBER 1:rant:

:sarcasm:

Ozymandias 10-02-2008 10:45 AM

Some the rankings I don't agree with, but it's better than a lot of predictions we've seen in past few years.

Habs10Habs 10-02-2008 10:51 AM

What a difference 1 year makes.

NHLcrazy 10-02-2008 10:58 AM

Ottawa and Edmonton are too low, Tampa and Dallas are too high...while Toronto is exactly where they should be.

Roulin 10-02-2008 11:05 AM

I love my Habs, but I don't understand how we can be rated above the Sharks.

We have A) 3 solid offensive lines, B) pretty damn good defense, C) 2 rising star goalies, D) More depth E) We hosed them on Rivet ;)

no the leafs need to finish about 26th...

so they don't get a chance at a lottery pick! .... :naughty:

That would just be so nice. As mentioned, I also find the Sens are rated rather low. I guess time will tell and the list will change a lot during the season.

neofury* 10-02-2008 11:19 AM

Sabres 11th.....

HAHAHAHAHAH OMG I peg them as fighting with TO for last place no joke. Or maybe with the NYI.

I noticed that too, and it makes me nervous.

Habs_46 10-02-2008 11:20 AM

I think the sens are going to finish between 6th and 9th in the east.

their defence isn't impressive (no true PP QB) not much scoring depth after their big 3... (mind you those 3 can combine for 12 pts on any given night)....

and even if they do make the playoffs... geber has never been a money goalie..

I really don't expect big things from them this year... they are not the same team from a couple years ago... just think if Alfredsson or Heatley goes down down for any period of time they are in for a ruff time...

IMHO...

+1 ... their roster doesn't really scare me!! lol

One Man Rock Band 10-02-2008 11:25 AM

So he has Phoenix ranked 7th in the west.. but they will finish as the eight seed. I see.

neofury* 10-02-2008 11:31 AM

His list is 50% correct imo.

Half of it doesn't make sense in other words.

Also wanted to mention I also think the sens will be a piss poor team this year, I think they'll be 7th to 9th place.

Also, look as his reasoning for Ottawa being 19th... imo it's just a bunch of filler, he doesn't even really pose a real argument other than that line about goaltending which isn't even close to something proven yet.

Dripper 10-02-2008 11:40 AM

Leafs should be seeded 31st, behind the Hamilton Bulldogs.

I honestly think full roster of leafs vs hamilton would be close games, hamilton might even be able to take a 7 game series against the leafs :)

There will probably be some teams better than the Bulldogs to.. so we might as well just make the Leafs 42nd.

Fido22 10-02-2008 11:44 AM

I agree, Leafs should be relegated to the AHL.

I love your optimism there, almost implying that the dogs might be 1st at the same time as saying the leafs are going to suck ;)

Wouldn't it be fun to see at the end of each season either:

Stanley Cup Champs versus Calder Cup Champs
Last Place NHL team versus Last Place AHL team
Last Place NHL team versus Calder Cup Champs/First Place AHL Team
Stanley Cup Champs versus Last Place AHL team, etc

So Toronto versus Calder cup champs or First place AHL team, and see who wins :)

Watch Montreal finish like last this year. haha...

Wait a second, that wouldn't be funny.

I see them as being in the middle of where you and SI have them.... fighting for a playoff spot but ultimately falling short 9th-11th.... but not down in Atl/Leafs/Isles territory.
