Predators demote LW Pihlstrom and Depth Chart

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slu...v=st&type=lgns

"NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE (TICKER) —The Nashville Predators set their season-opening roster Wednesday, assigning left wing Antii Pihlstrom to Milwaukee of the American Hockey League.

Pihlstrom, 23, made his NHL debut with Nashville last season, appearing in the Predators’ 3-1 loss at Colorado on December 15. The Finn spent the majority of the campaign with Milwaukee, recording 27 goals and 18 assists in 78 contests.

Nashville opens its season Friday, when it visits St. Louis."

As far as I have seen, these are the current rosters: (according to yahoo sports)
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/na...xB1aMp4ilJ2bYF

I'm not sure these are 100% accurate, because I don't know when they were updated.
But....

Thoughts about the second line being
Jones - Legwand - Hornqvist ?

My only thought is that that's not even close to being our second line.

That's a relief

Do you know where I could find an accurate listing of the lines?

If you want to go spelunking in the vast chasm's of Barry Trotz's brain, you could probably get the best ones. Although they change every 45 seconds so it's not like it makes a huge difference.

Educated guess for opening night:

Dumont-Arnott-Hörnqvist
Erat-Legwand-Tootoo
Fiddler-Nichol-Jones
Peverley-Bonk-Smithson

Suter-Weber
Hamhuis-De Vries
Koistinen-Zanon

Ellis
Rinne

Scratches: Kevin Klein, Joel Ward
IR: Nick Tarnasky (hand), Steve Sullivan (back - LTIR), Jed Ortmeyer (knee - LTIR?)

We're gonna be the first team in history to run only 3 lines?

Speaking of which, Hordichuk played 7:24 last night for the Canucks while every other player on the roster got up in to double digits. Poor guy, some things never change. Game Event Summary

If we're going to use a spot on Peverley, it has to and will be somewhere in the top three. For whatever reason, Trotz LOVES him. I'd be surprised if our lines ended up that way.

I see it shaking out this way:

Dumont Arnott Hornqvist
Erat Legwand Peverley (hopefully not for too long...this is a SOFT line)
Jones Nichol Tootoo
Ward Smithson Fiddler

Tarnasky
Bonk(hopefully there's SOMETHING in the works to get rid of him), but for now he's injured.

Hamhuis DeVries
Suter Weber
Zanon Koistinen
Klein

Ellis
Rinne

Now, if I had my druthers:

Dumont Arnott Hornqvist
Erat Legwand Pihlstrom
Fiddler Peverley Tootoo
Ward Nichol Smithson
Tarnasky

Bonk- traded for pucks, Jones- in Milwaukee, preferential call-up duty along with Mike Santorelli

Suter Weber
Hamhuis Koistinen
Zanon Klein

DeVries, packaged with Bonk for even more pucks

Sulzer, I guess, as first call up.

Ellis
Rinne

Thats better than the 3 or 4 he would have got here.

barrytrotzsneck 10-10-2008 08:58 AM

i am truly going to miss hordy. I loved his attitude, personality, and the way he played the game.

We're now left with a group of guys that can't fight their way out of a paper bag and can't play much better.

The Tennessean is reporting that Peverly will definetly start on the top line.
LINK HERE

"A center by nature, Peverley has been practicing on the left wing with top-line players Jason Arnott and J.P. Dumont and is likely to start there in tonight's season opener at St. Louis, although he will probably rotate with Patric Hornqvist and Jordin Tootoo on the top two lines."

He would have gotten far less ice time if the Canucks didn't win the game 6-0. I watched all, but about five minutes of the game and Hordy had a couple nice hits, but looked out of position in his end and was out there for several icings against - allowing Calgary to throw the Iginla line out against Vancouver's fourth liners. In the third period in particular about half way through, Darcy's line got caught out there for 3 straight icings and allowed Calgary to mount quite the attack - although Luongo was fantastic all night long.

As you said, some things never change...Darcy getting caught in his own zone and his line icing the puck to relieve pressure just happens to be one of those things.

Peverley has been playing with a ton of confidence this year in training camp and is being given a shot that he has rightfully earned out of camp to prove that he can be an effective in a scoring role at the NHL level. Rich excelled early in camp when he was put in preseason games with top talent and showed a lot of skill and patience in training camp sessions when paired with that talent again.

I look for him to bust his butt out there to make sure that he rises to the level of his linemates. This is a huge opportunity for him and one that you can only hope he will not miss out on.

As said above, Peverley getting top-six minutes with Legwand and Erat would be way too soft. Instead by pairing him with Arnott and Dumont he will have a couple "bigger" players to work with and create open space for him to work within.

braindead 10-10-2008 02:31 PM

The sad truth is that our only hopes for a viable 6th member of the top 6 are: Tootoo, Jones, Peverly, Ward (and Pihlstrom....). I list them only becuase they haven't had the opportunity to fail yet. Fiddler and Bonk have proven that they can't do it.

This assumes Hornqvist actually is ready or we need TWO of them.

Pihlstrom is sent down. Ward seems like an extreme long-shot.

Jones, hasn't looked close to ready but it likely will be his spot before long anyway.

That leaves Tootoo and Peverly...

Not impressed with Ward so far, he looks way out of place.

That's two votes for Jesus, one for Mother Theressa, one for a solid goalie, one for a camel face, one for a camel toe and one for Paris Hilton...

I think you see what you want to see.
