Vancouver - Pittsburgh

VAN: Jordan Staal, 5th round draft pick

PIT: Kevin Bieksa

Helps the Pens on the D and powerplay without Gonchar, and brings some more offensive depth to Vancouver.

Big McLargehuge 10-10-2008 05:46 PM

No..

Nah. I think most Pens fans have given up caring enough about these proposals to torch anybody.

A simple "no" shall suffice.

Burlington Bomb 26 10-10-2008 05:59 PM

Uh oh....get ready....

eklunds source 10-10-2008 06:03 PM

Bieksa isn't nearly enough. I think Staal is overrated (ppg in OHL, 41 goals in 2 seasons) but he's still young and the Pens won't move him.

struckmatch 10-10-2008 06:09 PM

Jesus Staal can never be traded...

Seriously though, Staal is overrated, but it takes more than just Bieksa, just not as MUCH more as so many people on hfboards think.

Nope. Now let the "Staal is overrated" trend continue.

Have we been here before...?

Now that Edler's signed for the next 5 years, I guess Bieksa's assumed the mantle of "centerpiece Canuck in rejected Staal proposals".

Edler had a nice run, but I think Bieksa can handle the responsibility.

Joey Moss 10-10-2008 07:22 PM

yea right! Bieksa is so overrated he doesnt have much trade value. Staal is too but i take Staal over Bieksa anyday.

thadd 10-10-2008 07:51 PM

To Pittsburgh:
Ohlund
conditional 1st(If Staal resigns with the Cannucks
conditional 2nd(If Staal doesn't resign with the Cannucks

To Vancouver: Staal

FruityPants3* 10-10-2008 07:53 PM

That's like suggesting you trade Jesus for Ezekiel.

Thanks for the in-depth analysis. If you could explain how a 10goal/40+ pt defenseman who will drop his gloves in a second for his teammates is overrated I'd love to hear it.

RoyBoyCoy 10-10-2008 08:28 PM

Why is Pittsburgh throwing in the 5th rounder when Staal is clearly the better player

He gets offered for a kid who's one year removed from scoring 29 goals as an 18 year old, while being a defensive stalwart, and who played a key role in a Finals run.

And the OP figures Pittsburgh has to add to even it up.

You're welcome.

So he's overrated because of one trade proposal? No....I don't think so.

Aqualung 10-10-2008 09:14 PM

Pittsburgh doesnt touch this

AK 10-10-2008 09:33 PM

Big time no from Shero.

Staal is better than Bieksa.

Why give up a pick?

I wouldn't do this from Pitts point of view but than again i wouldn't remotely give up what Pitts thinks Staal is worth. Way overrated by Pitt fans while somewhat underrated by the rest.

Just take it as a small sample of a larger overestimation of his abilities.

It won't hurt your brain so much.

wahoyaho 10-10-2008 11:27 PM

Pens would not do this lol

KeanuReeves 10-10-2008 11:42 PM

to vancouver: j. staal
+ conditional 2nd 2010 for each team (if ohlund resigns, pick to van, if staal signs extension, pick to pitts)
to pittsburgh: ohlund, grabner, late pick

No.

Whitney is back late December/early January. Once Therrien figures out how to plan a powerplay without Whitney and Gonchar at the point, they'll be ok enough to wait till at least Whitney comes back.

If the Penguins trade Staal, it's to get back a top 6 winger, not a defenseman and it would be in a package deal of course since Jordan won't exactly land a top 6 winger by himself in a trade.

I like Bieksa, but not for that price.
