Some good stuff from Rodent

Was trying to find a spot to put this, but didn't know where, so I'm making a new thread.

Rodent wrote a good article which kind of sums up some great points about why the team's been struggling.

Some points that stick out
Quote:

The Isles pressured New York's point men all evening. This is consistent with the formula initiated by Buffalo which all subsequent challengers have mimicked. Until that stage of the young season, Gotham's offense was averaging 3 goals per game because of slappers and wristers originating from the top of the slot. [Since then] production sputtered to a mere 2.2 goals per game. Shootouts are not included in these figures.
Sorry Rodent, trying to keep the length down ;).

Here's a point that many people were making in the PP thread and I've also seen elsewhere. Where before the Rangers were scoring a lot originating from point shots (see Aaron Voros) but now teams have gotten wise to this and the team has suffered. Dropping 1.05 goals per game is huge. It's very reminiscent of last season when the Rangers couldn't score at all in November.

Quote:

Scott Gomez skated almost 24 minutes tonight. Petr Prucha and Nigel Dawes? Half that. And only Nigel got a sniff of power play time. What I'm really trying to say is that Renney has stopped rolling four lines as he did in the early going. He's deploying two lines the bulk of the time - alternating the third and fourth lines the rest.
I just liked to point this out because it's interesting that Renney was kind of altering what worked in the first bunch of games. It seems that once the team is losing it's lines 1 & 2 over and over again even if they aren't producing.

That's one way to stop voros/duber...don't allow point shots. Honestly though this team has more than enough talent to find other ways to score and I am really not that worried yet. To be honest the loss against the isles hurt definitely but we all know that if we get that many chances we'll win more of those games than not. I would be much more worried if we weren't getting chances or shots...

Guys the Islanders added Fritz and got Sutton back. They ran us all night and pushed us around. The point shots happened we got 38 shots on net
