Useless thread...

leafaholix* 02-29-2004 06:59 PM

These guys aren't Leaf fans... so it's not a bias... it's fact.

punchy1 02-29-2004 07:01 PM

Short version,

Everyone and thier brother are going to Toronto for picks.

Other teams won't offer enough.

Most teams don't like to spend money right now.

The first point made by Miller was that Gonchar ISN'T going to Toronto, that Colorado and Dallas are the frontrunners and not to believe all the Leaf hype machine. Your post makes it sound like they said everyone is going to Toronto when the opposite is true.

You must have heard something else.

He said that with the injury to Rafalski (bruise), the New Jersey Devils have become a serious threat to land Gonchar. And that Colorado was the other team.

All he said was that the Leafs were no longer the front runners.

i'm saddened by miller's gonchar rumor
but he probably thinks rafalski broke his leg

1)It has been speculated before that Toronto would be a good place for Gerber to go to since Belfour may be done after this year and Gerber is about to enter the prime of his career. We could use a young d-man prospect in return.

2)Prospal's contract is 2.5 million a year. So I assume you are referring to the 4 million signing bonus the Ducks gave him. Tampa doesn't like that the Ducks are asking for 4 million as part of the trade.

Let NJ overpay for him then.

If you need defensive prospects the Leafs have plenty. Good fit to make a trade then. I think Gerber and Tellqvist would be a worthwhile tandem to give a whirl next year (inexpensive too).

Volcanologist 02-29-2004 07:24 PM

The reason why there's so many Toronto rumours is because they are one of the primary teams who is willing to add an expensive player or two this year.

Because of this, they're probably talking to a lot of teams who have this type of player and are looking to unload. That adds up to a lot of different agents and scouts blabbing, and it ends up on the internet and on TV.

i thought so too
could it be an option yr ?

Kevin Forbes 02-29-2004 07:29 PM

Kondratiev might be a guy that the Ducks would be interested in for Gerber

What Mackenzie said was Gonchar and Leetch are both unrestricted at the end of next season but becuase there may not be a season, you could pay a big price to gtet them now and only have them for one playoff. Could end up as rentals, real expensive rentals.

The Hamburglar 02-29-2004 07:40 PM

I've been saying Dafoe to Toronto for awhile now. Finally someone listens. He almost signed with T.O. two seasons ago, the guy has a passion to play for the Leafs (he even bought blue and white pads 2 summers ago in anticipation he'd be a Leaf). Now Toronto needs a backup. Seems like a good match.

ArtVandelei 02-29-2004 08:38 PM

Gerber would be a great aquisition. Why would the Ducks be shoping him?

Gerber is older and has the potential to be a #1,
Giguere isn't going anywhere
Bryzgalov is running out of things to prove in the minors
someone has to go

p.l.f. 02-29-2004 08:46 PM

i cant see nj picking up gonchar, think of what his raise would be

dallas, thats another story, are they buyers now?
they seem to keep changing their minds
i'm guessing the caps want a top young d prospect in return

it just seems to fit just right for the leafs with the colaicovo offer
but it hasn't happened yet, so who knows what the hell is going on.

I'd try either Kondratiev or Bell.

First Bell. If that doesn't work, then Drats.

Alex Kovalev 02-29-2004 09:06 PM

no news about Kovalev?

Kevin Forbes 02-29-2004 09:09 PM

TSN has a recap of this here

But don't you think TO would want to get a good goalie for the playoffs, even if it is just insurance? Dafoe has only won a single playoff round in his career.
Then again.................... maybe he is good for the Leafs............. :p
