Getting back into it.

Hey guys, thought I'd come on here for some suggestions. I haven't played ice since my sophomore year of high school, I'm gonna be a junior in college after this semester. I still play in a few street hockey leagues but its not the same at all. I'm gonna get back into ice in December/January, and I realized I need some new equipment, mainly skates and a new helmet. I don't wanna spend more than like 450/500 combined for the two...any ideas?

Helmet runs you a max of 150- and 350 is plenty for a decent pair of skates. I would say to not go top of the line on the helmet, Something like a Bauer 5500 if you like the gel padding and 4500 if you like the foam.

As for skates, Try them on to pick out a pair. Middle of the line won't run you too much, and if you go online and buy old models on closeout (often only works with weird sizes) you save a lot of money.

a lot of online hockey stores have been clearing out old stock for a while (but most of it is gone) and there's a lot of good deals to be had. you can google a few places and get a helmet and skates in the mid-range for no more than $300 on average. and with nbh renaming/rebranding some of their model lines, you can get a lot of their stuff for close to 1/2 price on some sites.

Cool, thanks guys. Wanted to make sure I didn't get an ugly bucket lol. You were right about the online warehouse sites, they have some pretty good deals now.

Sign up to hockeygiant's mailing list. They usually send out deals on certain stuff (mainly stuff that's soon to be closeout/clearance). I got a pair of skates for $120 which were originally 400+.
