The Scott Gomez Injury Thread (Listed as Day to Day)

Does anyone have any clue at what is bothering Gomez? Jay Greenberg of the Post mentioned today that he's been playing with something, and it could linger all year. God, I hope not.

I think it's a constant upset stomach from having to watch Redden and Rozsival every night.

Other than that I've got no clue.

Shake and Bake 11-12-2008 09:54 AM

**** me, damn...I'm not sure what it is

UnderPSI 11-12-2008 10:02 AM

My guess is probably bumps and bruises.

squishy 11-12-2008 10:16 AM

Based on the way he limped down the stairs at the Fan Forum last night, it's a leg injury of some sort.

Its a leg injury of some sort.

Gomez has just two assists in his last six games, but isn't thinking of sitting, nor has coach Tom Renney told him to take a break to heal.

"I'm about 99-point...percent, I'm kinda nicked up a little bit, but you know when you can go and when you can't. I need a day of rest and that's about it." When I asked if he was feeling better than last week, he offered one of his Yogi-isms, which he calls "Gomey-isms."

"A week ago I was probably younger," he said.

He jumped on Footch from MSG for answering his own questions, then when I asked if, at the 18-game mark, he was disappointed after a winning start, Gomez couldn't resist.

"I'm disappointed in reading your articles, how full of ---- someone can be," said Gomez, who will jab an interviewer he knows in a crowd to give him time to think of a response. (I told him he needed a translator).

Dagoon44 11-12-2008 11:18 AM

The mentioned on TV a few games ago he was dealing with sore legs.

darrenturcotte#8 11-12-2008 11:24 AM

He has a turnover itch he hasn't been able to shake since getting here...

NYROrtsFan 11-12-2008 11:28 AM

Gomez hasn't been the same as he was last year. Last year towards the end of the season he was excellent. This year he just hasn't been the same. I like Gomez though. Think once he plays as he did last year, this team will improve that much more.

Must have caught the disease from Zherdev?

Anthony Mauro 11-12-2008 11:49 AM

WTF do sore legs mean to a hockey player? Did it look like he had problems with his hip flexors?

boxcar 11-12-2008 01:44 PM

i sat behind the bench on saturday where NY walked in & out. Gomez had something fitted on the outside of his left (i think) skate. more than likely this is the injury. probably took a shot off the foot. On an off note, it was interesting to see the players up close & how they were reacting to the game. Some were very intense & visibly frustrated (Drury, Mara, Henrik, Cally, Gomez to some extent) others showed no emotion (Dawes, Orr, Voros, Dubi)
Oh yeah,i got one of Gomez broken stick as well from a trainer. He broke at least 2 in the 3rd. Mission Titainium = p.o.s. if you play hockey do NOT buy this junk, holy crapolly. I'll take my Easton over that any day of the week.

NYR Viper 11-12-2008 02:35 PM

yea, im pretty sure its his legs....possible stiffness or soreness most likely in his quads as thats what most players use most of

Do you know the young lady who kept trying to yell at the Rangers through the glass right behind Renney in the 1st?

I don't know, I haven't noticed any great reduction of Gomez' neutral zone speed.
Must be something other than broken bones.

Gomez listed as Day-to-day

Per Weinman
Quote:

So it turns out the Devils aren’t the only team contending with injuries tonight.

Scott Gomez’s leg injury has turned out to be worse than expected. He won’t play tonight, and is listed as day-to-day.

While still second on the team in scoring with 13 points (three goals, 10 assists), Gomez has struggled the past few games. Curiously, I hadn’t seen it in his mobility as much as I have in his unwillingness to engage in contact. Against Edmonton, there was at least one instance when he carelessly dished off the puck when about to get hit.

“That’s a question for the individual,” Tom Renney said when asked if the injury as affected Gomez’s play. “He’s skating hard. He’s working hard. As far as being able to play, I don’t know, but he’s certainly been playing hard.”

Renney said Gomez has had an MRI on his leg, but that the player is mostly dealing with pain. As recently as yesterday, the coach said Gomez couldn’t risk further damage by playing. He backed off that a little tonight.

“It’s precautionary as much as anything,” Renney said. “But if it compromises the player or the team, you have to do the right thing.”

Gomez played in 81 games last season, his only missed game coming after badly bruising his ribs in a late-season game in Philadelphia.
I guess it was worse than expected. Hopefully he doesn't miss a big chunk of the season.

Thank god I was in 428 and not where she was.

boxcar 11-13-2008 01:15 PM

nah, i snuck down after the 1st. I was down on the end closest to the goal, by the tunnel.

FutureGM97 11-13-2008 05:35 PM

with scotty out...maybe it will make the offensive be a little more creative rather than just giving him the puck and letting him carry it all the way up the ice. Make the offense unpredictable!

Balej20* 11-13-2008 10:49 PM

I'd like to see the team play a few games without him. I loved the way they looked last night.

I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I'm not a big fan of Gomez and his style of play.

We got away with playing without him because we were playing against a backup goalie and made him look like a backup with major players on the Devils roster out.
