Ragnarrson out 10 days, Slaney up

Rags out

Slaney may be a good fill in. He has been doing pretty good with the Phantoms.

blah 03-01-2004 02:40 PM

Time for Odelein.

philly_billy 03-01-2004 03:20 PM

with Ottawa and NJ coming up, do you think Clarke will go into those tough games with Markov, Pitkanen, Johnsson, Timander, Slaney, and Blundy as his top 6?? :dunno:

I'm sure Clarke has a 3rd round pick sitting around doing nothing, just collecting dust...

Nikkowar 03-01-2004 03:30 PM

All I can say is,keep me out of Sands Casino, guys!

Teezax 03-01-2004 03:34 PM

I can smell Clarke's finger burning up the speed dial now. I hope he get's Witt.

nah...he'll find away to get what he wants without giving up Carter, Richards, Ruzicha or Niittyamaki. I don't know how but he will.

MojoJojo 03-01-2004 05:11 PM

Wonder what the Blues would want for Pronger. Supposedly they are losing 20 mil a year, are nearly out of the playoff picture, and Big Chris makes about 10 mil per. He would be the PERFECT Flyer, and we can afford him with Primeau and JR out. Would probably cost Richards +.

I would think it would be Sharp and a 2nd.

No, Gonchar won't be coming, we already have plenty of offensive defencemen.

This may speed up the aquisition of the physical D-man Clarke has wanted though.

Rex88 03-01-2004 06:12 PM

I still ask why Weinrich was dealt? Play him and sit Bundy. Now we have another gap for ten days. I would rather have Lachance if Col. is willing to move salary - I would part with low pick and mid prospect - maybe they would take Pletka? I bet he could actually help that team score some goals.

No way! By the trade deadline one or more of these guys will be gone! But hey, if we could get Pronger? And if can resign him? Not a bad deal.

Pronger is not an option. St. Louis isn't out of the playoff picture yet. Besides, Pleau will want a guy like Richards and taking Pronger's salary on when the Flyers are at 68$ already.
I don't see it happening.

MojoJojo 03-02-2004 09:43 AM

It looks like Pronger might be too costly, especially for a salary dump. Seriously, maybe we could get Weinrich back. UFA, Blues out of the playoffs, etc. How about a fourth? we got a fifth for him, so we wouldn't be that far from where we started.

swflyers8* 03-02-2004 09:48 AM

I think Weino got moved for salary reasons. I think he has a 3 million dollar salary. I'd rather get someone else. He was making a lot of mistakes before he was shipped to St. Louis.

Actually, since JR and Primeaus salary is going to be mostly covered by insurance while they are out, we have a little salary room to play with. If the cost for Pronger was just Richards, I would do it in a heartbeat. Problem is, it will be more like Richards and Handzus, which would kill the deal. Pronger is perhaps the best defenseman in the league along with Blake and Lindstrom, and is in the prime of his career. He is not going to come cheap, not unless the Blues are desperate to dump salary, and who knows what the truth is about the leagues finances today.

How does insurrance work? It is paying for Roenick and Primeau right now?

I believe it covers 80% of their salaries, though I could be wrong.

getting Pronger is probably wishful thinking.

Coburnfan05 03-02-2004 10:00 AM

How about Greg Devries in NY. Would probaly come cheap seeing the Rangers want to trim payroll a bit.

Also why is it allot of people keep putting sharp in trade proposals. I acctually like what I have seen from him in his limited role, and has argueably just as much upside as Carter or Richards.

Other Dman I wouldn't mind seeing in flyer orange this year.

K.Carney
R.Salei (sp?)
B.Witt

I don't know about de Vries. He is signed for three more years at a little over $3M per season. The Flyers need someone with a shorter financial commitment unless his first name is Brian.

swflyers8* 03-02-2004 10:20 AM

There are lot of guys out there to choose from:

Bryan Berard -- maybe
Jason Smith -- if the Oilers don't make the playoffs
Eric Brewer -- price would be the ? for him
Brendan Witt -- would be very happy with him here
Vitaly Vishnevski -- Ducks are probably down, very physical
Bret Hedican -- good all-around player
Sean Hill --same as Hedican
Lyle Odelein -- very cheap option
Luke Richardson --
Scott Lachance -- plays a solid, consistent game
Leetch -- again, a question of price

:dunno:

get witt it! he's cheap and nasty. we don't need scoring off the blueline with pitkanen, desjardins and jonnsson. we need a guy who will hit and make forwards think twice about going to the net. get witt it!

Blindside9711 03-02-2004 12:25 PM

Bryan Berard -- Wouldn't mind seeing him here, but after a great season, Hawks would ask a lot probably
Jason Smith -- Great physical d-man, solid leader... which is why EDM would ask a lot for him
Eric Brewer -- Had an off-year but showed that he can be a cornerstone blueliner. Price would be high, but...
Brendan Witt -- Definitely the kind of mean-streak defenseman we need to complement Markov
Vitaly Vishnevski -- Doubt he's being shopped, and would be expensive if he were.
Bret Hedican -- Above average blueliner, but a shadow of his 2001 self
Sean Hill -- Has a decent point shot, is a bit slower but positionally solid.
Lyle Odelein -- Would be a cheap pick-up, but could be a great insurance policy, or just to get Ther-rible out of the lineup.
Luke Richardson -- Blue-collar Luke is welcome back in Philly anyday. Contract is a roadblock however.
Scott Lachance -- Solid vet d-man, but like Luke, contract could be a roadblock in this situation and hasn't played well enough to merit a closer look in my opinion.
Leetch -- Could be good for a playoff run, but not ours. He's just not physical enough to provide what we lack.

Top 3 to pursue in my books: Witt, Smith, Vishnevski/Brewer
If we're prepared to part with a valuable asset or two for Smith, I'd much rather offer it/them for a younger d-man like Vish or Brewsky.
