PGT: Habs squeak one out in the shootout against Blues

Ouf. Not a pretty or easy win at all, but a needed win. 2 more points than I thought we would get about 20 minutes ago.

Tuggy 11-16-2008 07:53 PM

Neither team really played that good, so I'm not sure if the Habs "stole" points but a win is a win and at this point the Habs will take them any way they can get them.

NHLcrazy 11-16-2008 07:53 PM

Ugliest win in years....

le_sean 11-16-2008 07:54 PM

Though they won the team is still ****ing terrible considering the talent.

Something needs to be done about the PP, Weber plz.

Redux91 11-16-2008 07:54 PM

dont know whats more sad

the fact koivu used his moved and messed up AGAIN

or that he almost went offside LOL

Habs10Habs 11-16-2008 07:54 PM

I'm still numb after this game. I'll come back and post later.

gg refs, way to try to impress your boss by calling every single contact.

we miss streit badly.

TomPlex 11-16-2008 07:54 PM

You know what, we put in effort tonight. A lot more effort than we've put in in the last few games. And for that reason, I'm happy. They'll build on this win. I hope that SO winner helps build Kovy's confidence.

Ross MacLochness 11-16-2008 07:55 PM

It wasn't THAT ugly. We're struggling right now. But we're not in 06-07 territory.

But something needs to be done about the PP. It's a sad state of affairs.

And for god sakes Carbo, leave the Lang with the brothers line together. I never want to see Andrei with Kovalev again.

theonejc 11-16-2008 07:56 PM

i donno about u guys, but penalties are really starting to get to me. It makes for a very boring game, whats wrong with these refs? its hard to get any flow to a game anymore...

CrisisInMTL 11-16-2008 07:57 PM

What an awful game to watch. I don't think I've been this 'down' after a Habs win ever. I know the post game reaction by us is going to make us look really fickle to other fans reading out board, but tonight it's deserved.

I'm just relieved we got the 2 points.

C-Saku Koivu MTL 11-16-2008 07:57 PM

With all the penalties there was no flow at all and it created a very boring game. We did'nt play great hockey but it was to be expected. Let's just hope the guys build on this and start getting out of there slump soon enough.

I disagree we don't miss streit we just need to line up the PP properly... Markov and Kovalev are not being put in positions to succeed.

First unit PP NEEDS to be this
LW:Anyone who goes to the - C: A centre - RW: KOVALEV
LD: MARKOV - RD: Someone who can shoot.

Their boss was at the game, that's why they went nuts....mind you it was chris lee also who is terrible even when his boss isn't watching him :help::help:

Agreed, the Blues did not outplay Mtl, both teams played like cr@p. Mtl just took advantage of the shootout system.

Markov cannot be the trigger man on the PP. His shot does not get on net. Markov needs to get back to the setup man. That's been the key to our PP the last two years. Bring up Webber, send Brisebois to pasture. He is sooooo done.

MathMan 11-16-2008 07:59 PM

Store 2 points and chalk up that tenth win. Winning isn't everything... but it beats the hell out of losing.

Baby steps. Get better and better each game until you're chugging along again.

LesHabsRock 11-16-2008 07:59 PM

I like the fact we won, but going 0 for 10 on the the PP really concerns me. They should have put this game away earlier on rather than finding themselves scrambling to tie it with minutes left. This was a Blues team without two of their best players and we still had trouble. Making things tough on themselves.

Edit: Positive is that AK46 got two points and Price played very well. Nice goal by Lang who has shown to be a definite upgrade over Smolinski. He's on pace for 25-30 goals on the third line.

le_sean 11-16-2008 08:01 PM

How about that, both goals came from players going to the net. Plekanec almost scored doing the same thing. Maybe they should start thinking about doing this more, just an idea.

I dont really get the bolding of "AGAIN" seeing as though he Montreals best at shootouts and that move usually works.

Quiet Robert 11-16-2008 08:01 PM

What an ugly win. It was a pretty bad performance, (not as bad as Toronto or Anaheim mind you) and at this point I'm just happy to get the points.

The only real positive is that Kostitsyn put up some points and had a decent game. Other than that there weren't many standouts from a positive POV. Negatively...well I don't want to bash anyone, but let's just say the guys seemed to be going through the motions and expending minimal effort.

PP needs to get adjusted. Markov isn't doing much on the right hand side. I may have said it earlier in the year, but he just isn't doing it as the trigger man. Moving him back to the LH side could be a start.

I like that Carbo was juggling the lines a bit, but nobody seemed to really click that much. I'd like to see him try this though, I'm pretty sure I didn't see these combos today:

A.Kost-Plekanec-S.Kost
Tanguay-Koivu-Lats
Higgins-Lang-Kovalev

anarmandaleb 11-16-2008 08:03 PM

Those were the dumbest, lamest, most pointless penalties I have ever seen called in a hockey game. And I watched the Habs at Minny game.
And the Canes at Habs game.

I'm relieved about the win, of course, and glad that Kovy got a chance to be the "hero." It'll bring some of his confidence back.

MathMan 11-16-2008 08:04 PM

The Habs need work, but they have the luxury of being able to do it riding a 10-4-2 record. It'd be a lot worse if they were in, say, the Sens' position. They have a bit of a cushion, and they don't have a 3-game losing streak yet.

Bluebillion 11-16-2008 08:05 PM

a) **** you to all you people who say its an ugly win.
Reason: A WIN IS A WIN!! if you win by 3 goals or by 1 goal, you get the same amount of points so appreciate the work that the players put it tonight. Better than we did VS Boston! So stop whining, or else go play for the habs yourself and prove us wrong.

2) Kovalev should get confident now!

3) Kovalev's goal was awesome, shot it up :)

4) Price is back : D
