If Gretzky got back in shape and came back to the NHL...

How many points would he get?

Plato 11-16-2008 10:10 PM

Every year this thread comes up and every year it gets worse for Mr.Gretzky.

Wow. 5 votes, 5 different results. :amazed:

Honestly, if he came back in the best possible shape that he could be in, he'd probably be a nice second-line center. His skating wouldn't be where it was, but his intellegence, shot/pass accuracy, and vision would still be there. Give him a spot on the first PP unit, and he'd put up 51+.

IdiotsPickedMyName* 11-16-2008 10:30 PM

Jokinen - Gretzky - Doan?

octopi 11-16-2008 10:32 PM

He'd do pretty well until he got checked and his hips cracked.

Now, Gordie Howe on the other hand....:D

Hyperkookeez* 11-16-2008 10:42 PM

id like to think somewhere in the 16-30 range

excellent hockey sense or not, the "new" nhl is faster than the one he left, not to mention hes older & slower, and not overly large

Ghills23 11-16-2008 11:03 PM

If I'm not mistaken if Gretzky came back he would be the first player-coach since Reggie Dunlop.

Powerplay specialist. I think he still has the hands. 51+

deanosaur 11-17-2008 12:12 AM

I think he'd probably get 0 goals, and 50+ assists.

~30 perhaps

OT
If Lemieux got back in shape and with no injuryproblem I think he would manage atleast 70 :>

Kamina 11-17-2008 03:33 AM

6200th post!
Come on, he's Gretzky. Given that he's in shape, he would still kill on the powerplay. I can't see him being any higher than the second line though. 50-60.

mouser 11-17-2008 11:45 AM

I seem to recall Gretz had some vertebrae fused after his retirement...

daveskirtun 11-17-2008 11:46 AM

16-30

Yeah, no s***.

TimeZone 11-17-2008 12:58 PM

around 30 points

Celestial Black 11-17-2008 03:53 PM

16-30 pts but I see him getting laid out and going back into retirement.

ShawnTHW 11-17-2008 04:00 PM

Where is the option for 0?

WhiskeyYourTheDevils 11-17-2008 04:10 PM

just play him on the PP, hed do just fine on the half boards, dont need speed there

rebel diamond 11-17-2008 04:57 PM

6-15, and probably closer to 6 than 15. At the speed the game is played, and the strength these players play it with, I don't think he could do it anymore. His hands couldn't keep up with his mind.

ItsAllThere 11-17-2008 05:14 PM

Sorry, if he had to truly earn his place in the roster he would probably be sent to the minors.

He is older, slower and weaker. How many points did he put in his last genuine NHL season? 62 points, and after 10 years of no competitive hockey his hockey sense is nothing like it used to be. He would never crack a spot on the PP unit.

The Man in White 11-17-2008 06:55 PM
