Innovative Stats from LaPresse
 

LaPresse just published some very innovative and interesting stats to look back at the 1st quarter of the season.

Lots of stuff in here, but some highlights:

Josh Gorges has been very effective. Koivu and Tanguay have been our best players. Komisarek and Plekanec, not so much.

Where did they get the Chipchura stats? Hamilton.....what's the point?

Chipchura played 1 game.

Chipchura played one game at the beginning of the year.

It makes Chipchura look like an offense oriented player. But overall they are pretty cool stats.

ouch at Komi being almost last on GAA and lol @ Breezer being almost first.. :wow:

Oh yeah, and everybody's favorite whipping boy (including mine), Brisebois, has been good.

Komi has been horrible, these stats confirm it..

Lapierre and Bégin allows 14 goals per 60 minutes of PK. That's awful.

Another cool thing is media blames Kostitsyn for Kovalev's problem. At Even strenght he's +1.39 per 60 minutes of ice time while both plekanec and Kovalev are in the minus. Blame the guy that wants to go back in his own country despite having no proof!!!

It also confirms that Laraque has played some pretty bad hockey (injury or suckiness?), and that Kovalev and Plekanec are not performing to expectations. It also confirms that whipping boy Latendresse does not deserve the negative attention he's been getting.

When you're on the ice as much as Komisarek usually is (ES and PK), you're going to be on the ice for a lot of goals against.

But not that much...he's not having a great season, plain and simple...

Yeah, but he'll still get 6 mil per season on his next contract :sarcasm:

They would also confirm that Breezer has been our best D.

So, I wouldn't pay too much attention to those stats.

(I know I've provided the link before on this forum, but I figured it might interest a few people who haven't seen it in the past.)

According to those stats, Josh 'Norris'' Gorges should have more PP time.

IMO, special teams stats should always be separated from 5 on 5. Komisarek leads the team in PK time per game, it skews La Presse's version of his GA/60 quite a lot.

You guys should really learn how to read stats. Lats has played most of the year with Koivu & Tanguay so his record should be about the same as theirs. But it'snot. It's a lot worse. Why is that?

One reason is that when he didn't play on their line, he had no one to cover up his ineffective play.

Another is that he didn't have Koivu & Tanguay's stats to boost up his own.

So what do you get? Lats' stats well below his linemates' stats.

Another thing La Presse should note: sample size matters. Gorges' 16 seconds of PP per game might as well be disgarded, we're not going to get anything meaningful from that.

Exactly. Looking at it the way La Presse laid it out, you'd expect Komisarek to be a -40 every season.

Using 1986Habs' site, Koivu and Tanguay score more playing with Lats than with Higgins: http://www.cs.unb.ca/~mwf/habs/gf.html. Obviously Koivu and Tanguay are going to be driving that line, no matter who they play with, but Lats is still doing fine offensively.
