kovalchuk vs Heatley

Given a choice between Kovalchuk and Heatley, which player will you choose and why?

Shredder 12-08-2008 10:35 AM

This is a close one. They're pretty even right now, but Heatley is putting up slightly better numbers. Still, at their current levels, I see more untapped potential in Kovalchuk than I do in Heatley and that edges it in Kovalchuk's favor for me. Kovalchuk is a bit of a sulker though and it's only a 55-45 victory for him.

El Maestro 12-08-2008 10:55 AM

Heatley puts better numbers because he plays with Alfie & Spezza, Kovalchuk would have awesome numbers if he played in a good team.
My choice would be Kovalchuk.

Habs 4 Life 12-08-2008 11:39 AM

Kovalchuk cause he can do it alone

The Big Swede 12-08-2008 11:46 AM

Heater

Dany Heatley

Kovalchuk

Kovalchuk. I just cant wait to see him get traded and play on a real team instead of the Trashers.

The Expert 12-08-2008 03:06 PM

It's funny how some people seem to think Heatley has played with Spezza and Alfie his entire career.

Heatley, but Kovalchuk wins everytime because of useless hypotheticals.

PlayItAgain 12-09-2008 11:41 AM

Today ---> Kovy 65%
Back in Aug '08 ---> Kovy 66%
Back in Jul '07 ----> Heater 67%
Back in Nov '06 ---> Kovy 55%

Interesting sidenote that the only time Heatley wins this comparison is right after his team makes it to the Finals.

So what can we deduce from this? I guess team success really does influence fan's opinions of a player.

Bruinsfan_37 12-09-2008 12:51 PM

Ilya Kovalchuk

Dionysus 12-09-2008 01:11 PM

Heatley.

Who outplayed who when they played together? That's right, Heatley.

You mean a 21 year old with college experience outplayed a 19 year old with no North American hockey experience? Flawed argument. I'd rather have Kovalchuk because he is more explosive. Heatley is more consistent and a better player if you would rather have consistency.

He outplayed him in their first and second years. 'Kay thanks.

Nizdizzle 12-09-2008 06:57 PM

Kovy had Savard, and didn't put up much better numbers...

Heatley performs every year regardless of his linemates.

Ohashi_Jouzu 12-09-2008 11:20 PM

Yawn... Kovy, and it shouldn't get much closer than this unless the Sens population (now at 10 or 11 of the 24 Heater votes) all decides to drop by and vote.

Chea* 12-09-2008 11:57 PM

Kovalchuk and it really isn't close.

kovalchuk was better in their rookie seasons

collapsethelung 12-10-2008 12:02 AM

Heatley. Not only can he score 50+ goals and 100+ points on any given year, but he's far better defensively than Kovalchuk and that in my opinion gives him the edge.

OOO REALLY>? I think its pretty much unanimous that Kovalchuk had a better rookie season but the reason he didnt get the Calder Trophy was because he missed 17games due to shoulder injurgy...

Kovalchuk 18years old no NA hockey EXP 29goals 22assists for 51points in 65games

Heatley 20years old 2years of NCAA hockey EXP 26goals 41assists 67points in 82games

'Kay Thanks lol

Theres a reason why Kovalchuk always wins these threads even though Heater is Canadian, plays on a Canadian team and has uber playoff EXP compared to Kovalchuk. Its because Kovalchuk is better and the majority knows it...

theboss* 12-10-2008 07:36 AM

Kovalchuk

buddy you dont watch thrashers games so dont make comments like that. And btw, Kovalchuk is leading the Thrashers in points...as usual.

SilverSeven 12-10-2008 08:10 AM

Heatley does everything Kovalchuk does and more. He actually crosses into his own zone once in a while to play D. He has put up better numbers consistently. He actually plays for his team, not himself.
