G Roberto Luongo

Assume the Canucks can't sign Luongo by the 2010 trade deadline. What kind of package can Vancouver get for him?

Some teams that come to mind that need goalies are Ottawa, Los Angeles, Philadelphia.

Any suggestions ... ?

Suppose Crosby can't be re-signed by 2012... what kind of package can the pens get?

Roster player
1st Round pick
Prospect

JBIZ14 12-10-2008 08:56 PM

L.A.'s whole team :sarcasm:

shortshorts 12-10-2008 08:57 PM

considering that he signs with that team.

2 roster players
Nhl ready prospect
Prospect
1st (maybe)
2nd

Bunter McVirtanen 12-10-2008 08:58 PM

Considering PHI has no goalie prospects in the pipes, how about Carter, Coburn, 2010 1st?

Michael Scott* 12-10-2008 08:59 PM

Did you forget Luongo's NTC also? and the fact he bought a multi-million dollar home in kelowna near Iginla i believe...

Luongo right now is the best goalie in the league, but in 1 year that could change...

What if the canucks are compteing that year? do they trade their #1 jsut because they're not sure if they can re-sign?

This thread should be closed

Well if they are 100% that he won't re-sign I owuld not risk keeping him, and letting him walk at year's end. No matter how next year goes, Luongo is easily a top 3 goalie in the league, and all GM's know that. So I don't think his value will change much, unless he suffers a major injury (highly doubtful; he has been extremely durable).

This thread would be much better off being opened at a point where the Canucks have a legitimate starter in the system to replace Luongo and/or aren't looking at the possibility of a deep playoff run.

But it is not prudent at this juncture.

Carter, Coburn, Giroux and 17 first round draft picks

Throw in JVR and it's deal.

he also said. he wants to be on a team thats going to win. If he doesn't want to be here he WILL waive it. and for the house. He could buy one somewhere else with the money he's making.

Luongo has a NTC...

in that case, it's where HE wants to play...

on top of that, the canucks seem like a decent playoff team... i highly doubt they trade Luongo if they are in a playoff spot... regardless if he is going to re-sign...

Like i said, it is too far away to be asking what his value is... because a lot can happen... and there are to many variables to consider...

If the Canucks wanted to trade Luongo this year... it's a different story.

If Schnieder becomes better. add JVR and make the first in 09 it would be more reasonable.

although i believe Luongo will resign with the canucks.

If we trade him at the 2010 deadline, we can't add a 2009 1st. :)

CAPiTA 12-10-2008 09:13 PM

ah i thought if we trade him now.

Pinkfloyd 12-10-2008 09:15 PM

If you can't sign Luongo by the trade deadline of his free agent year, he's a rental. Thus, his value is diminished. He'll get a roster player, a prospect or two, and a pick or two. Not great young NHL players but decent ones with potential that aren't solid yet to that point.

Tripwyre 12-10-2008 09:17 PM

I'd like to get Bertuzzi back. What are Allen and Auld up to?

if it were by deadline.

something like

Salary dump (UFA)
Roster player (2nd liner)
prospect or two
and a 1st.

Good thing the G was there; at first, I was worried this was about RW Roberto Luongo.

Realistic trade value would be two or three top prospects, and thee to four 1st rounders. No doubt. I don't know if a roster player would be valuable or not.. depends on the team, I suppose. You just have to figure the only teams bidding for his services are going to be winners who have low draft picks. I wouldn't doubt a team like the Wings (sans salary cap problems) would be able to make such a deal.

Yes, let's do the super-cool HF thing and propose that a prospect > franchise goaltender.

Keepin' it real.
