OT: Petr Vrana and Mike Lundin on waivers.

If he falls to us I say we pick him up.

He's a center. So if Koivu is out for awhile (I hope he isn't) he can fill in on the top 3 lines for awhile.

Plus, he's young. Was a 2nd rounder in 2003.

Maybe worth a shot??

Why pick up AHL garbage?

What kind of player is he? What would he bring to our team? Is he NHL ready?

Monctonscout 12-12-2008 02:54 PM

Except for a decent year last year, he's been pretty disapointing since being drafted 2nd rd.

He's a speedy center with skill. Strong too despite being only 5'10.

From what I've seen he's pretty good at handling the puck and actually plays with a gritty style.

61 points in 80 games last year in the AHL.

I dunno, just a thought considering he's on waivers.

I dunno. 2nd rounders don't usually have that high of expectations. I'm willing to bet half of them don't make the NHL as regulars.

With that said, I don't know much about this guy other than he has 1 point in 16 games with the Devils. We can't send him to the AHL if we pick him up, and he doesn't seem to be ready to be in the NHL with those stats.

not many players are gonna put up points in 4 minutes a game

Blind Gardien 12-12-2008 03:04 PM

I don't think Gainey plays many games with players' lives. If he picks up a guy, it's because he has a legitimate plan for that player. And, aside from some injuries, our roster is pretty full, so I don't see him playing around by taking a Vrana or Lundin, just to try them out, and then possibly throw them back in the ocean in a couple weeks (though I would do that!)

That said, I could see either Vrana or Lundin getting picked up by teams ahead of us in the selection order, so it could be a moot point.

He won't hold himself when in front of the net, not the guy we need, rather call up someone.

Fair enough. Like I said, I don't know much about him. I had never heard of him and my (admittedly non-expert) comment was solely based on his 1 point in 16 games.

With that said, what do we do once Koivu's back? He'll have to pass through waivers again if we're to send him back down.

If the Devils don't think he's ready to get more icetime than he has been, why do we think he's ready to play the role of a top 3 centre when we roll three lines?

(Just asking questions here, I'm not fully against the idea, but I would think that if the Devils were that high on him, they wouldn't let him go through waivers at the chance of losing him.)

probably half of first round picks don't make the NHL as regular either...

One Man Rock Band 12-12-2008 04:04 PM

Lundin isn't a bad defenseman.

Habsrule 12-12-2008 05:13 PM

just a random fact on vrana:

he was the first euro to be named captain of a CHL team

Magic33 12-12-2008 05:15 PM

By the sound of it on the main board, Lundin could be a good 5/6/7 Dman. Everyone seems pretty surprised that he was waived. Although, I think we have enough 5-6-7 type defensemen.

VAN-HAB 12-12-2008 05:23 PM

Lundin, is the child of Sundin and Linden he is pretty good imo

I'd say he's more what happened when Sundin and Linden merged via osmosis to create a new life form.

Gainey doesn't sign players unless they are under 5'7.

Lang and Tanguay were trades. Does Laraque even play here any more?

HabsoluteFate 12-12-2008 06:46 PM

Mike Lundin?
Change Mike to Mats and then Lundin to Sundin and we have a deal...

although the latest article makes it sound like its pretty much Vancouver

kostitsyn1489 12-13-2008 07:23 AM

I like Vrana and lol a the guy saying we should call a guy that can play in front of the net. Tell me one healthy center in Hamilton that can do it and not be a liability to the team right now.

So i wouldnt mind Vrana, sometimes i dont get NJ's moves. He isnt the best player in his own zone, it might be an issue in NJ. That said it wouldnt be the first time a guy have a slow start in his career to finally get really good in another team, arent we still complaining about Beauchemin? So I'd like Vrana, but we called up Maxwell and we also have chipchura who is NHL ready or really close to so i doubt it happens.
