World Junior Championships

I couldn't find a thread for it, so I made one. Canada is working Sweden pretty badly. I'm really impressed with Karlsson, and Hedman, and somewhat like the play of Tedenby.

EDIT: If you're looking to watch it, http://www.justin.tv/hateme

Burlington Bomb 26 12-19-2008 07:33 PM

2-1 Oscar Moller with a backhand PP goal. Shouldn't have counted, goalie was hit in the head with the stick. IIHF rules.

I like Del Zotto, I do, but I was pretty disappointed we picked him over Tedenby, who was still available. I'm dreading when he gets to the Devils because I think he's going to a pretty good player.

Time will tell. I like the MDZ pick better. Tedenby will be a good player, but he is very, very small, and we have enough small players. I think he has like 3 shots this game too.

KRM 12-19-2008 08:53 PM

Karlsson, Backlund, Owuya, Möller were really good today. Hedman had a beyond bad game, but showed just a little flash of his skill on his goal. Will be interesting to see the next game between these teams, because I think Sweden outplayed Canada until the ref started calling everything against us. Then it was downhill from there...

Tedenby hasn't even been able to crack the SEL more than 4th line minutes and has been pretty mediocre overall. Much prefer MDZ.

Canada is physically on the small side this year. I think it will be their toughest battle in years. The U.S. looks really good this year.
Oh yes, I'm Canadian.

Yeah...he's 18 years old. Really not going to hold it against him that he isn't getting much ice-time in one of the best men's leagues in the world as an 18 year old. All I know is I saw him play in the Swedish second division last year, and he was great. He can make a lot of things happen offensively. He might be small, but I think he'll be a pretty good second line scorer in the NHL.

I think he'll be a solid 2nd liner, also. But I feel that MDZ's upside is much higher than Tedenby's, which is why I like the pick more. Especially with the way that MDZ impressed in pre-season.

I'm curious to see what Grachev will do with Team Russia.

Ditto. Will jutintv have all of the games?

King of cool 12-21-2008 12:21 PM

I heard Hockeystreams.com will stream all the games from the WJC, probably from TSN. But nothing 100% yet.

Ih8theislanders 12-21-2008 03:12 PM

We're just spoiled by having 5-6 in the tournament each year over the past few years. ;)

Keep in mind that Cherepanov would have been there as well...

Russia vs. Latvia on now: http://www.justin.tv/jtv_sports4

squishy 12-26-2008 02:12 PM

Team Russia's up 1-0 at the end of the first.

Grachev looks to be playing right wing on Russia's top line with Nikita Filatov and Dmitri Kugryshev.

ThirdEye 12-26-2008 02:14 PM

Hmm... how come the stream isn't loading? Is it because of the intermission?

squishy 12-26-2008 02:20 PM

Don't know... its still working for me. Keep trying I guess?

King of cool 12-26-2008 02:32 PM

I am watching the game atm (not on justin tho), good to see Grachev on the top line, he got some opportunities, hope he'll put one. The Latvian goalie isn't bad, he made some good saves. Won't be easy

squishy 12-26-2008 02:57 PM

2-0 Russia at the end of two. For the record, Grachev is centering the line

RangerBoy 12-26-2008 02:58 PM

Why didn't the Rangers select Oscar Moller in 2007?Moller played for the junior team partially owned by Glen Sather and Brian Burke.

squishy 12-26-2008 03:41 PM

3-0 russia. I'm en route to bridgeport to watch the Pack. Can someone post the final score and who else (if anyone) scores? The IIHF box score won't load right on my phone. Thx.

Vaheh 12-26-2008 03:53 PM

4-1 Russia
Ozolins scored for Latvia,Klopov for Russia.Grachev missed a half empty net standing right in front of the net.
