What The Hell?!

pitseleh 12-30-2008 09:09 PM

I'm guessing they want to send Schneider back down to the AHL so he can start playing games again. A seventh round is basically nothing.

Placebo Effect 12-30-2008 09:09 PM

think pitseleh is on to something

Peter Griffin 12-30-2008 09:09 PM

Decent stop-gap, allows Schneider to go back to Manitoba and re-gain his confidence.

Zorbane 12-30-2008 09:10 PM

This is like the Cloutier trade but backwards.

Could this mean Luongo is closer to being back? cause i sure as hell wouldn't trust Labarbera with many games.

VanEric 12-30-2008 09:12 PM

Any official link like TSN or something?

It does make sense because Jon Quick has stepped in well for the Kings and Ersberg is coming back.

Why would they trade for him if he was close to coming back, if anything its the opposite.

This is what I am thinking. Luongo is most likely having more difficulties then people first thought and this was just a depth pick up.

I'd say this has much more to do with Schneider than it does Luongo.

Stripes 12-30-2008 09:20 PM

This trade has nothing to do with how close Luongo is to being back into game shape. After all, he did practice today. This was to get Schneider back to the AHL where he can play more minutes.

LaBarbera is a good backup goaltender. What will be interesting is whether the Canucks waive him or trade Sanford when Luongo gets back.

LOLBarbera is right.

how much sense does it make to bring in a back up now to send schneider back to the AHL after all this time. what if schneider is going to be dealt? and lebarbera(sp?) is a stop gap back up until luongo is back.

VanEric 12-30-2008 09:29 PM

Schneider goes back to the Moose where he belongs. Labarbera sits on the bench for a couple weeks and joins Schneider in Manitoba if no one claims him on waivers.

We only gave up a 7th...at least.

I like him. I don't know why. could be from his days in the WHL.

DreamCatcher* 12-30-2008 09:32 PM

LaBarbera should be ecstatic for returning home and I honestly can see him being Canucks back-up next season since his talent level is on par with Sanford.

punk_o_holic 12-30-2008 09:32 PM

Perhaps playing in front of his family will motivate him. He was born in Burnaby, anyone know for a fact that he still have family in Burnaby?

*Oilers suck against him, we had trouble with him this season and think last season as well.

Outside99* 12-30-2008 09:33 PM

Don Taylor's going to love that seeing as Sam St. Laurent is LaBarbera's unofficial goalie coach.

Mindcircus 12-30-2008 09:35 PM

The good news is, you guys didn't give up much for him. The bad news is he might start in net for you.

Honestly, i hope he turns his game around for you because it doesn't get much worse than the game he was showcasing here with the Kings.

I would assume he has some family there, but his immediate family lives in Prince George.

Hey Vancouver fans:

Get used to this in a shootout -

Fake shot.
Freeze LaBarbera.
Deke to backhand.
High into net.

Except against LA, of course, against whom he will be a goaltending GOD.
