The Blackhawks won't have recently-named All-Star starter Patrick Kane on the ice as they try to avoid a third straight loss while looking to cool the surging Calgary Flames today at the United Center.

Go Flames!

BearChi 01-04-2009 03:18 PM

Go Flames Go
flames need to play a full 60 min
does mcElhinney start to night?

GoFlames 01-04-2009 03:24 PM

Agreed, this would be a huge win if the team plays hard. They will have to earn it as the Hawks (sure Detroit reminded them who is the champ) are not the Predators.

Noori 01-04-2009 04:05 PM

No Kane? :banana::pickle::devdance:
YEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

Boomstick 01-04-2009 06:11 PM

I have confidence, and with Chicago's back to back Detroit defeats, they might be in a vulnerable state of mind.
No Kane helps our cause too.
Go Flames, keep rolling!

Snoil11 01-04-2009 06:16 PM

Somebody has to tell them that the game has already started before we should even think about keep rollin'!
Horrible start to the game!

Snoil11 01-04-2009 06:33 PM

Let's hope that our PP is better than yesterday.

abracanada 01-04-2009 06:33 PM

I am thinking Phaneuf is going to break out here. Start scoring some goals.

Lanny'sDaMan 01-04-2009 06:53 PM

Well not the worst period from the Flames that I've ever seen, but certainly miles away from the best. There were moments of great play surrounded by mediocre effort and lazy plays. The first fifteen minutes were completely dominated by the Hawks. They brought the game to the Flames and really pressed every advantage. If not for the stellar, and even stellar is too soft a word for it, play of Miikka the score would be gut wrenching. Finally the Flames stepped it up with five minutes left in the period and really began to play with some fire. The fourth line was really the only line to show up for every shift and create anything.

The power play had their chances, but as per usual could not capitalize. Truth be told this was only partially the special unit's fault as Habby was his Wall like self. He absolutely robbed Iggy on a breakaway. The special unit did most of everything acceptably, but not overly well. They passed, they shot, but they didn't realy look dangerous with the exception of Iginla's chance. The penalty kill continues to be amazing. Poke checks, decent clearing and a brilliant set of plays by both Miikka and Nystrom kept the Hawks 0 for 1 on the period.

Iginla is trying so hard to get it going. He's been his usual hard working game breaking self. He just needs to continue this and you know he'll get rewarded for it. I also cannot sing the praises of Nystom on the pk highly enough. He does everything right on the disadvantage, and is consistent about it too. I also have to give Giordano some kind words as he's been playing much better this game so far. That diving poke check in particular was inspired. And the hits keep coming! Regher, Pardy and most noteably Roy with the bone crushers. I did laugh when Roy simply shrugged Burish off like a pesky mosquito at the end of the first.

More P.O. than anything else.

Calculon 01-04-2009 07:03 PM

Good start to the second

abracanada 01-04-2009 07:09 PM

Kipper needs to battle Khabibulin straight up. Now is the time to take away his mojo on the Flames.

abracanada 01-04-2009 07:12 PM

Yeah, that was this close to maken me look clever. Oh well.....lots of hockey to play.

The Gaud Father 01-04-2009 07:15 PM

Regehr is mad. Let's go take this game.

The Gaud Father 01-04-2009 07:16 PM

I'm gunna like this game.
Regehr vs Eager
Roy vs Walker

Iggy and Toews next pl0x!

StreakingRed 01-04-2009 07:17 PM

Regehr is awesome. Especially when he's mad.

abracanada 01-04-2009 07:24 PM

I don't like seeing them taking unneeded penalties. That is something they have stayed away from during this streak. And Chicago is not a good team to be taking them against.

Snoil11 01-04-2009 07:24 PM

Pretty lazy penalty by Conroy.

Noori 01-04-2009 07:25 PM

Connie hadn't taken a penalty for a while. He was due.

The Gaud Father 01-04-2009 07:30 PM

Standing around....come on move your feet boys.

2-1 Hawks....Flames getting lazy.

Noori 01-04-2009 07:30 PM

2-1 hawks :shakehead

abracanada 01-04-2009 07:32 PM

Pretty much what I was afraid of.

Hopefully they can capitalize on the Hawks penalty.

Noori 01-04-2009 07:32 PM
