Non-Flyers NHL games on Comcast Philly

I guess this thread is really just for the Philly residents who get Comcast Sportsnet.

I've noticed in recent weeks that Comcast seems to be getting in the habit of broadcasting out of market games from their other affiliate stations on our local station here in the Philly area. A few weeks ago they randomly put on a late night Sharks game from their Bay Area station. And then last week, they randomly put on a Caps game from their Mid-Atlantic Station. As you can see from their main page, they have branched out to a bunch of different places now, http://comcastsportsnet.com/pages/main

Anyway, it seems to me that these games are just randomly being shown without much warning or without necessarily even showing up in your on-screen TV guide, so I thought people could use this thread to let others know if they happen to see that a game is on or that a game will be on. Hopefully, Comcast continues doing this...because it's definitely awesome to just randomly get out of market hockey games broadcast on your TV in HD. It was an awesome surprise to see that Sharks game on, as well as the Caps game.

I also noticed following the CN8 game the other night, that they mentioned that this Sunday's Blackhawks-Predators game will be shown on CN8 here in Philly...for anyone who may be interested. 1/11/09, at 8pm. I don't know that I'll be watching that one....personally, I'm not sure I can make the sacrifice of watching CN8 for anyone but the Flyers, lol.

Nice Thread idea.

I'm glad Comcast is doing this. I just don't get why they continue to show the Sixers in HD while the Flyers get broadcast in ish smear CN8 whenever they play at the same time.

GKJ 01-08-2009 02:39 PM

It's been going on for a few years.

By the way, the Sixers still have 4 games on CN8 not including whatever ones have already occurred.

Really...I figured there was a chance it had been going on for longer than just these few recent weeks in which I've noticed it, but I would never have guessed it's been that long. I watch a hell of a lot of CSN, even when I'm not really watching TV but just have the TV on as background noise that's usually what I'm tuned into...and that Sharks game a month or so ago was the first I've seen of it.

Anyway, though...it's good to know that they've been doing it for that long, as I'd think there's no reason it's suddenly going to stop at this point. Hopefully, they start doing it even more, and get all their different stations involved when they can.

The online streams are far better than CN8 from what i've heard

It's more noticeable because the Blackhawks are showing more games now.

In addition, our games get sent to the other stations as well.

Yeah, I figured they're sending our games to the other stations sometimes as well, as they should.

Have you ever noticed any of these games being scheduled and listed in the on-screen guide well in advance?

I couldn't even find the Flyers game listed from Tuesday Night. They had some show listed on the on-screen guide. I forget what it's called. I had to ask my dad if he knew the channel since it wasn't on there.

TheKingPin 01-08-2009 03:42 PM

this is a good idea.

I also am pretty sure that the new CN8 channel, whatever its called, is going to start showing a lot more hockey. I mean look at the teams comcast has rights to...

Philly
Caps
Sharks
Blackhawks

I mean that could be the conference finals haha. No wonder they have all that cash to build their new building...:sarcasm:

Also to give my mom a good view at work.

That Skylobby is something! I work for Pepsi and I was in South Philly during the summer when I started there covering sales routes. One guy had all of center city and it was easily my favorite route to cover...so easy and I got to go up in almost every high rise. I feel bad for the guys delivering there, though.

I hate watching games on CN8. The quality is garbage. I HATE when the Sixers and Flyers are scheduled at the same time. Guess who always gets pushed. :thumbd:

Do you know of any online streams? Post them if you do.

atdhe.net is the best to use for now, but it seems like everyone and their brother knows about it...and its been around for a while. so as long as people keep making it public like i just did and what people do in the gdts it prb wont last long. to reiterate the gdt, myp2p.eu's forums have a daily list of streams of many sports including hockey which u may or may not need to download a tvu player or sopcast or some other form of video player for.

Our game tonight was seen by people who get Comcash Mid-Atlantic and Comcash Bay Area, so they all saw the horrible reffing that went on.

Yup, got to see a Flyers game on my TV instead of my computer for a change. Was quite different! Haha. Wasn't the first time though, Comcast around here has done it before. They seem to pick up a Flyers game every few weeks.

Good point, but I wouldn't have noticed... Cuz I attend all home games.;)

Either way, what happened to the promise from the Flyers at the beginning of the year that said all Flyers broadcasts will be in HD?

I do remember JJ saying that in the first game....I actually got really excited about that. I think someone owes us an apology and a large lump sum of cash to remedy this situation ;)

There was an article in the paper promising that as well, which is what disappoints me. If we have to suffer through a few games of ****** quality due to scheduling conflicts, not having enough HD trucks to get them all around the country, whatever, then fine I can deal. But to promise we'd have all HD and then go back on it without mentioning any reason why is pretty lame.
