So basically Sanford is back, Johnson is back tomorrow, and Luongo is expected within 2 weeks.

For apologizing? Apparently.

Hopefully Pyatt takes longer...

Luongo better not play in the All Star game...I'll be pissed if he goes.

It's AWESOME to hear he could be back within a week or so. This is the point where you pray he doesn't suffer another "setback"...He's so close again it'd kill me to have him out for what would likely be the rest of the regular season at this point.

Our team seems to all be getting healthy at the same time. In the span of less than 2 weeks we'll have probably added Sundin, Luongo, Johnson...Those are 3 HUGE additions.

Luongo Back in 7-10 days

If Luongo is healthy why not let him play in the All-star game?

kaczor47 01-08-2009 09:44 PM

Could be back in 7-10 if his "progress goes" well.

Rover* 01-08-2009 09:46 PM

It's probably best to still wait after the all star break. After the canucks play sj on the 20th, they have a week off.

Tripwyre 01-08-2009 09:46 PM

Vigneault's said that the team won't allow him to play in the ASG unless he's already back and played a few games for the Canucks first. In which case, I really have no problems with him playing in it. It's in his hometown during their centennial, I think it would mean a lot to him, and he'd only play for 20mins anyway.

I don't think anybody is going to stop him...would you want to piss off our franchise player?

I hope he doesn't try to rush back to fit those games in.

He'll probably have to take part in the skill competition as well -- so most likely more than just one period's work.

How about the workout the day before from breakaway challenge or other games?

19nazzy 01-09-2009 10:13 AM

7-10 days puts him 1 or 2 games to go before the All-Star break. I'd prefer if they wait until after the break before he comes back. Rushing him back for a game is useless if it costs the team another 20 or 30.

The quotes in the Province are fairly promising:

Quote:

"The rehab process is really over. It's just getting into shape and making sure I'm ready to play. We're getting closer and we're getting some good steps in the right direction. I'm feeling pretty good," he said.

...

"I am pain-free and I'm not holding back as far as if I have to kick my leg out," Luongo said. "I'm not thinking about holding it back or anything like that. It's a really positive sign for me."

It's also a big difference from early December when he had to shut it down after skating for eight days.

Then, he had pain and there were leg extension moves he could not or would not do. Luongo started skating again Dec. 30 and has cautiously intensified until "I'm not really thinking about it when I'm playing as far as kicking my leg out. That's why I know I'm really headed toward the right direction."

Most assumed Luongo wouldn't play until Jan. 28, after the all-star break.

They reasoned that the Canucks could use the break to ensure he was 100 per cent. But if the injury is healed, it's healed.

So it sounds like it's more a matter of him getting into game shape rather than strengthening his groin due to the injury.

Take the break. Why bother risking it even if you think you're 100%?

Are All-Star games really THAT important to players?

Yes, this. If he's ready in a week give him 2 weeks.

smileyface 01-09-2009 01:14 PM

Can't really blame if he wants to go to the ASG. It's in his hometown afterall.

pitseleh 01-09-2009 01:24 PM

For what it's worth, on the radio this morning Gillis said that they've been extremely conservative with the injury and that they know it's better to have him out now than being out later, so I don't think they'll have him back in games before the ASB unless he's actually 100%.
