Tiebreakers - From NHL.com
1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
2. The greater number of games won.
3. The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.
4. The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season.

I'm pretty excited about this game.

Anyone else remember that game in Tampa a couple of years ago where the line of Lundqvist-Halpern-Barnes completely dominated the Lightning for like an entire period? That was one of the top displays of cycling and puck control I've ever seen.

Do you remember which guy scored the lone goal in that game for Tampa Bay?

Richards!

...and we've brought it back full circle, as Razor would say.

Stars99Lobo37 01-19-2009 10:24 AM

That road trip was a fun one indeed. Believe we played Belfour for the last time the next night? If not the next night, definitely the next game.

The return of Richards to TB...I wonder if they will boo him.

Stars99Lobo37 01-19-2009 11:48 AM

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if they do.

I don't think so, I think they all liked him a lot. He was a pivotal part of their cup run.

anyway Go STARS!!

Yeah, I don't think there's any way he gets booed.

All 100 fans that show up to the game may not even remember who he is!!!:D
I kid I kid. They won't boo him. This isn't Edmonton or Montreal.

Caseman 01-19-2009 12:39 PM

No offense to the Tampa Bay fans, but if the Stars want to be taken seriously, they should win this and win it hard.

Strange Tampa Bay stat:

Halpern is last on their entire team at keeping pucks out of his net at even strength with a 3.45 GA/60. (minimum 10 GP) Of course he's only gotten in 14 games so far, so you have to think he's in the process of getting his legs back.

That said, Richards has been worse with a 3.99 GA/60.

So basically Brad Richards is a -4 every night, is that what that means?

No, he doesn't play 60 minutes per game. Also, that is just goals scored against per 60 minutes at even strength. It doesn't factor in goals scored for.

Ah. Math and logic failed me for a second there, thanks for clearing that up.

So TB has looked much better recently, at least from the stat sheet they seem to. If we really are a playoff team and we don't come out flat, hell, even if we do, we should win this game.

If the Stars want to get into the playoffs, these are definitely the type of game they should win.

No matter if they truly are or not, this team is below us in the standings and based on that the Stars should win. But this are the 08-09 Stars we're talking about.

God knows which team will show up.

The only way this team gets in is if they get on a winning streak. And so far, we haven't won more than 2 in a row..and we haven't lost more than 2 in a row at any point this season.

Captain Awesome 01-19-2009 03:52 PM

So we're consistently mediocre, lol.

I know what you mean, you also have to take into consideration that Smith is gonna wanna do everything to beat this team tonight, and that should be more than enough to get anyone nervous. We know how great Mike Smith is.

Stars99Lobo37 01-19-2009 03:56 PM

I really do wonder what Smitty would've been like on this team, if we were able to trade Turco. Obviously it's just speculation but..maybe? Eh.

Do expect a great game tonight though. Could you imagine what a playoff series between these guys would be like? Not that it'll happen...ever probably. But would be a great storyline.

ugrakarma 01-19-2009 06:23 PM

Luckily Artyukhin is suspended so the knees should be relatively safe.

Modo 01-19-2009 06:27 PM

Here's a thought: If Smith got us Richards, do you think Turco could've got us Lecavalier? Tweak the sides a bit, but was it possible?

Stars99Lobo37 01-19-2009 06:29 PM
