Eric Staal Vs. Mike Richards
Since Getzlaf destroyed Staal in a recent poll, I'd assume he'd at least beat Richards right now. Kinda wondering who wins though between Staal and Richards. Now and in the future.

Richards, better overall player and better leader.

loxcane 01-21-2009 07:15 PM

Richards. Better all-around player

Saw Jiris Tlusty 01-21-2009 07:27 PM

Richards is the better all around player but Staal is the better offensive threat. I don't know I think its a wash.

shortshorts 01-21-2009 07:28 PM

Staal bigger offensive threat
Richards better overall player

SixthSens 01-21-2009 07:43 PM

Richards by a little.

GIN ANTONIC 01-21-2009 07:46 PM

Please don't make any Eric Staal polls this year. He's having an off year (eventhough he scored his 20th last night). He's not gonna any of these top guys from his draft. So basically we can cross off the Parise and Vanek polls too.

Vinegar Strokes 01-21-2009 07:55 PM

Voted push. I like Richards more though, he brings it all.

AK 01-21-2009 07:56 PM

Good poll.

Richards brings better defensive play, but I'll go Staal here.

Tank King Jimmy 01-21-2009 08:50 PM

Staal by a bit, he's actually been pretty good in his own end this season, and played damn good against Crosby last night.

Cone 01-21-2009 11:43 PM

I think some people might be confusing "better overall" with "well rounded." It's pretty close for me, I think people just associate leadership with defense and doing the small things right, and they rarely think of the pure offensive finesse players as great leaders even if they are awesome leaders.

arrbez 01-22-2009 12:16 AM

Probably Richards right now, but I think Staal will be more of an impact player going forward.

CioCio 01-22-2009 12:25 AM

Richards is great, but Philly's also having a terrific season. I'll take Staal easily.

ELab2 01-22-2009 12:32 AM

Richards by a bit, Staal has a lot more offensive talent but I don't see the great two way play or leadership that a franchise forward SHOULD have

nvan97 01-22-2009 12:48 AM

It's close but I would probably go with Staal for the simple reason that he's won a cup and was instrumental in that cup win. That goes a long ways in my book.

El Maestro 01-22-2009 02:52 AM

Richards because he's a more complete player.

but I don't think they would have had a chance to win it without a player like Brindy

Staal without a moments thought.

Bruinsfan_37 01-22-2009 08:03 AM

Give me Richards now and future

tony d 01-22-2009 08:05 AM

Staal by a little.

Habs 4 Life 01-22-2009 09:22 AM

Richards, love the kids style of play

kmad 01-22-2009 09:27 AM

Richards. Intangibles!

Devil Dancer 01-22-2009 10:13 AM

Richards by a little. Staal has regressed since 05-06 (or maybe his team has around him), though I like his durability.

The Big Swede 01-22-2009 10:14 AM

Richards is better rounded

Give me him

FlyLife 01-22-2009 11:28 AM

Until Staal proves that his 100 point season wasn't just a fluke, I'm not sold on him being a 100 point player year in and year out. Not saying that he isn't a terrific playmaker and a great goalscorer, I just think that he will settle in around the 70-90 point mark every year (he has got to pick it up this year haha).

Thats also the range that I expect Richards to be year in and year out, and like others have alluded to, Richards intangibles give him the nod. Both are great franchise centers however.
