Which player...

There are four players here, all with hypothetical stats and positions.

Which one would you want if you are starting a team?

Player A- LW, 70 G, 45 A, 115 pts.--elite sniper

Player B- C, 40 G, 80 A, 120 pts.--elite playmaker

Player C- D, 25 G, 40 A, 25:00 TOI average.---two way defenseman

Player D- G, .940 save %, 1.82 GAA

Modo 02-02-2009 10:18 PM

Let me guess: Ovechkin, Crosby, Gonchar and some pretty sick goalie?

Jared Cowen 02-02-2009 10:22 PM

Depends how well the defenseman plays defense. :sarcasm:

No, but I had a feeling someone would ask that.

I'm basically asking if you want an awesome sniper, a playmaker, a solid two way defenseman, or a great goalie, if you're trying to build a team.

StrangeVision 02-02-2009 10:24 PM

Ovechkin, Crosby, Phaneuf or Green, Mason

Edit: You should just ask if people would want a sniper, a playmaker, a solid two-way defenseman, or a great goalie so you don't get schmucks like me making these kinds of posts.

The stats are made up.

I'm not trying to start a pissing match.

I'm just asking what type of stud player you'd personally want if you were building a team.

Well yeah, considering this concept (Player A vs. Player B, totally random players we swear!) is pretty common amongst Pens and Caps fans. ;)

Voted A, by the way.

:)

Good suggestion.

Well If Player D plays like that his entire career than D easily.

Classic Devil 02-02-2009 10:50 PM

Depends on Player C's +/-.

amnesiac* 02-02-2009 10:52 PM

assuming the goalie's stats is mostly based on the stellar defence in front of him (and usually it is), Ill go with the elite playmaker who even scores 40 while hes at it.

He's a 10-20.

daveskirtun 02-03-2009 01:23 AM

Player C

RedLeader 02-03-2009 01:23 AM

Player D stats is too good. He would be the best goaltender EVER.

Assuming he plays a truckload of games, hes GAA also means that his TEAM totally owns defensivley :).

backs4mvp 02-03-2009 01:41 AM

D - > A - > ?

3rd choice would depend on the type dman, is he dynamic, always creating chances, always a threat whenever he's on the ice, or is he a PPQB and gets 40-50 of those 65 points on the PP.

TimeZone 02-03-2009 01:44 AM

Ovechkin

Lutzinho 02-03-2009 08:04 AM

i would have to choose that 70goal scorer...

Dutchy 02-03-2009 08:57 AM

Close between A & D. If the goalie is playing more than 60 games, than D.

nik jr 02-03-2009 09:11 AM

franchise d-man is the best to have, imo.
but franchise d-men play more than 25 minutes, and are generally above 10-20 in +/-. so C may not be a franchise d-man.

the goalie might be the best. hasek didn't even get to .940.

mouser 02-03-2009 11:48 AM

Goalie. If you iced any of the hypothetical four players with an otherwise average supporting cast the goalie's team is going to win the most.

I'd say the goalies numbers suffer the most with an average supporting cast.

8BostonRocker24 02-03-2009 12:09 PM

I never trust stats... you can make them say damn near whatever you want whenever you want.

I need names and I need to see the player in action. There are very few (if any) people that will take Gonchar's last 10 years over Pronger's, even though Gonchar has more impressive numbers.

Pretty much my mind set as well.

Pure 02-03-2009 01:14 PM

Player D. Those stats are unheard of in the NHL.

Suffer what? OP said these are their stats.

Kills the question if you have to account for how much the players' teammates contributed to their stats.
