The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have recalled defenseman Ryan Parent from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms. Parent will be available to play in Wednesday night's Flyers-Boston Bruins game at the Wachovia Center.

Parent, 21, has one assist and 18 penalty minutes in 15 games with the Phantoms this season. He was assigned to the Phantoms from the Flyers on December 28, 2008, after missing the first 36 games of this season recovering from surgery performed on his right shoulder on October 16, 2008.

The 6'2", 205-pound defenseman was scoreless in 22 regular season games for the Flyers last season. He recorded a goal and seven assists for eight points and 42 penalty minutes in 53 games for the Phantoms during the 2007-08 season.

Awesome. But i guess that means no Coburn for s ure tonight

tripler0425 02-04-2009 12:12 PM

I like the move. He will help give us that defensive defenseman that we need.

DeadPhish5858 02-04-2009 12:14 PM

Sweet! Now we just have to do something about that Jones guy. :sarcasm:

YEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Second best news today

DeadPhish5858 02-04-2009 12:19 PM

I know he's a stay at home defenseman, but i found it slightly surprising that he hasnt registered a point in the NHL yet. Then again he's only played 23 games.

edit: He does have one assist in the playoffs.

I love Parent. I can't wait to catch the replay of this game.

ForsbergIsOdin 02-04-2009 12:28 PM

Nicee

Kambo 02-04-2009 12:31 PM

Excellent. More tastykakes to look at!

In all seriousness, I hope he stays up and gets the minutes. I know it's a stretch for it to actually happen, but one can hope.

sa cyred 02-04-2009 12:31 PM

Very happy about this.. time to show them what your made out of =)

FlyLife 02-04-2009 12:45 PM

Sweet! This is great news!

Parent is one of my favorite Flyers, I think he is gonna be big key for our team in the future.

Hopefully he is healthy and plays well.

Glad to see #77 back.

I don't care who he plays with, but Parent over Sbisa is an upgrade actually. We have enough puck moving defense at this point, and can use a stay at home d-man.

QFT.

Give him a few games to settle in. Thats if Stevens allows that. The dude is what we need, and oh yea, HES YOUNG!!!!!!!!

I have a feeling tho, a sick feeling that this is Homer showcasing him to the league so he can grab someone at the deadline.....

Parent has some offensive upside also, something most people don't talk about. He's good at making that first pass out of the zone, and that should translate to points eventually.

You may be right, but until he shows up on the stats sheet, he will never get credit for what he does.

Ok with that as long as said grab starts with Jay and ends with Bouwmeester.

dbr2 02-04-2009 01:38 PM

Niiice. I didn't see him on the ice yesterday at practice...coburn was not practicing he has the flu I believe.

JagerPuck 02-04-2009 01:41 PM

About time!

qwertysac 02-04-2009 01:46 PM

This is great news, glad it finally happened. He wouldve made the team out of camp if it weren't for his injury

Making a decent first pass does NOT equal offensive upside. If we are talking offensive upside, Parent has zilch

chaosof99* 02-04-2009 02:02 PM

Ross had recently been pretty good with a hattrick and 5 goals in 3 games which gave him AHL player of the week.

The question is, who is out so he had to be called up?

This statement would only be correct if you consider Derian Hatcher to have an offensive upside.

Alchemy 02-04-2009 02:03 PM

Didn't see this coming.

I wonder who's spot he is taking.
